GJP Appears to be 1 month, i need approx 25,000 ap for $408 so if my calcs are correct youd need approx 31,000 ap for the full $500 bonus

I just started playing on the GJP site today, everything seems fine. Cards are a bit small if your used to tribeca largely because the tribeca cards were of the biggest ive seen but they aint that small compared to most sites.

Nice that there is $30 STT's, on tribeca there was a big gap between $20 and $50. Still getting used to it but my first impressions are good. Hand history is really neat for reviewing hands and taking notes and the transparent note feature is nice too compared to the old tribeca notes where you were in the middle of taking notes and it was your go and the note would minimize and youd have to bring it back up again. Im sure ill find plenty to complain about once i start losing but so far so good.

few things I've noticed that have annoied me immediately.

Who is ever going to use full screen mode?
When you click to see the overall status of a tournament if reverts back to the main "lobby" area not the table.
What's the point of the dealer image, why not make the dealer button bigger?
It seems slower that the old client.
It repeats in the top left everything that's in the title bar.
Why can't they have your best hand where your folded cards are?
What's with the carpet and wooden floor?
    Where's my buddy list gone?

My biggest gripe is that the quick keys are missing, I for 1 found these keys very useful, but there might be a setting somewhere for them.

The client itself is also a bit of a memory hog.

    Otherwise, it's fine

A query for a friend of mine..

Is anyone else being disconnected ..again and again..

The blackjack icon really really annoys me. What's worse is, there's an option in your registry to hide it which means the functionality to remove it is there, however this option seems to have been removed from the menu in the poker client... I tried to manually change it via the registry, but the poker client resets it when you log back in.

Did anyone notice the Server Time, yes its American, good old American....

took us ages to get rid of this crap in Tribece and its back, if this is the standard of the biggest Network in Europe disigned for European players, God help us.....

I guess from the lack of response from GJP and PPP there very disappoint too?

But I'll reserve my views on the software functionality until I get used to it.

Edit, just log onto PPP and there server time and tourney times are correct.

well first impressions, i absolutely hate it.

looks awful, cards are tiny, hate the avatars
    blackjack, roulette, omfg nooooooooooooooooooo
tourneys are no where near as good as the old line up on tribeca
my fav 200 at 11 is gone, the 99 rebuy is gone......................
its awkward to raise the right amount
    its too slow

we were promised better tourney structures, this doesnt seem to be the case from the quite look i had

very dissapointing all in all, but like i said, first impressions, will give it every chance to change my mind.........

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 24,028 Mod ✭✭✭✭Clareman

I've also noticed that when you raise it's the total amount your putting in rather than on top of whats going on. There's also a few people trying to get used to it, played a STT, first round of betting the standard raise was to 100, that's 10x BB, muppets

I have been playing on the new software since last night (had to have a sneak on PPP). My test version had very little functionality so I couldn't reall comment too much until I had played properly.

It took a while to get used to the new controls but I find them no harder to use than Tribeca after a few hours multitabling. The Slider is a definate improvement, try left clicking it rather than dragging it and it moves in easy increments.

It seems faster than Tribeca which is saying something, the timer makes up for the lack of time to act (I think the difference is minimal if anything).

The lobby could be better organised for tournaments but I found the best way to see what was comin up next was to resort using start time so that the finished tournaments are at the top and then you can scroll down a touch to see what is starting next.

Game selection is much better although I agree that the tables in the lobby do not update fast enough and I am sure that is due to the increased numbers and will be fixed in due course.

The waiting list is better, you can select 6/8/10 seats etc which is good. It also removes you as soon as you sit down which used to annoy me with all the popups telling me to close a table if I wanted to stay on the list with Tribeca.

The Cashier function is better as it means once you have the money transferred to the poker section you will not be affected by any cashier downtime.

The table sizes are a little bigger but I could never fit 4 screens without overlap so I am used to that, I can see how it would be annoying to have got a monitor that just fits 4 screens and now you have overlap again, I don't know if this can be fixed or not.

The size of cards affected me at first but I think that is just something you get used to as I find them fine now.

The Mini View is too small for me, but that is what it is supposed to be - 'Mini', others have told me they should get used to it and like the idea. I will be pushing for resizeable tables but I don't think that will come too soon.

It may take up more bandwith as I was disconnected a few times but once I disconnected from my cousins I got booted no more - this may be coincidence.

Structures in tournies seem to be better but players seems just as bad.

Make sure you notice whether your cash table is 'turbo' or not. I did not act in time after flopping the nuts which cost me :(

I still have not worked out how to use the 'buddy' feature - I can add someone but see no lists. It looks like player search facilty has not been switched on yet either as there is a reference to it in the help section but no button to use it.

Chat lobby is not as good but you can filter a lot of the junk,

All in all I think it will be a vast improvement in time. All it takes it a bit of time and patience to relearn your 'autoclicks'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

The main problem with the cards being so small is that when you use the miniview they decrease again, Ive already gotten used to the small cards with the full view but for the mini they really need to be made bigger

How do the action points work compared to the old ones?I might just open a BetFred account later.

OK, I've come up with a rough working that $1 paid in rake equals approx 25 action points earned
(I've earned 6k action points and paid $245 in rake according to PT. This ratio will differ according to your playing style, my VPIP is only 22%)

Therefore the effective rakeback on the VC bonus is just over 30%. The Betfred one is 50% which is the best I've found on the iPoker network (limited research so far)

I've quit VC because they are an absolute joke when it comes to support and signed up with Betfred.

Just spent a few hours on the site (with an completely open mind)

Ok, I absolutely hate everything about it.

As previous people said your cards are tiny, whats even worse is the cards of your opponents are so small you have to actually make a point to check each player to see if they are in the hand or not. I've been caught several times here thinking I'm against one opponent only to find another guy in the hand as well.

The Button is far too small

The whole 'its a great big fun cartoon' aspect of it is the most irritating. As nice as the knockers on the blond in the red dress are I don't particularly need to see them. If I wanted to play a lovely colourful game I'd play PKR which kicks the ass of everyone on that score. Come on, select what your lovely shiny avatar is wearing?

Far too much going on in the screen, BLACKJACK !!!! wtf is that all about?

Sorry to be so negative but I've just withdrawn my money and am looking for another site as we speak until someone sorts the mess out. I'm all in favour of progress but I fail to see how any of this is for the better

    :(

I posted my opinions because someone asked for them in a previous post, I have never hidden the fact that I own a share in GJP. They are just my opinions so take them as you wish but they are exactly what I think of the new software.

how open are playtech to suggestions from say some of the people from either PPP or GJP?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 paul8200

Well I think it's a great move. I hated tribeca (PPP). I mean really hated it.

This is a major improvement. It's faster. A much better interface (try it for a while).

And OMFG it's fishy. Maybe I hated tribeca so much I couldn't stick around to notice but the .05/1 is unreal. unreal.

As a Party Poker refugee stranded on Full Tilt I'm not sure I'll go back to cash games there. At the very least I'm going to hang around here to confirm things. (like the unbelievable fishyness)

If I like it this much in a week I'll look at GJP of course for a long term move over.

    Well done all involved:D

Just seems they have gone more for show on the table image...

when checking tourny status, just click status, there is info there that pops str8 up, its also easy to read.

Avatars are way to big, i prefer the old tribeca avatars but fuk it, its only an avatar, once your making a profit at the end of the day.

just ive been typing ive got dc .. 2nd time 2nite.. a problem with connecting to gaming server?...

Play on the tables for a few hours, you'll get used to it.

I originally hated the new software, but if we had played on Playtech for years and were suddenly given Tribeca there would be absolute mayhem.. It is definitely better. Tribeca had a cleaner table and clearer buttons, however that was it's ONLY positive. I've gotten used to 4 tabling over the last 4 hrs. My three main concerns are the size of the cards/chips in the mini view, the delay in updating the status of the cash tables (5/6 etc), and the stupid blackjack button.

whats this VIP cash all about

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 497 ✭✭gilmour

im a pretty low stakes cash player and ive noticed a strange and constant love/fetish for minraising/minreraising in both the cash games and tournys by the vast majority of players ive come across so far at playtech. Would the sliding bar issue have anything to do with this? (ie people being too lazy to find the right raise/reraise or is it just awful play - i think its the latter but surely the volume of players cannot possibly be this bad?)

I've played now for a few hours and I'm liking the new tourneys/sng's and blind structures . Am finding more fish too : ) but I do miss the "hot keys" as I don't like reaching for the mouse everytime I wanna fold :( Also the table doesn't pop to the front (if you are working on something else Tch Tch)when it's your move . All in all I know it will take a while to get used to ,and hopefully our suggestions will be listened to and implimented in the future .

Also does anyone know about the players notes - I'm travelling at the moment and save the pnt file to a portable HD but with the new software the "Players Notes " file is not kept in "my documents" ?I've done a search and no use either . Any help would be welcome .

I think its because the $ became the currency of poker at an early stage.
Also because the $ has less of a value than Euro or £, the sites will like to use it for advertising purposes, e.g., the One Million Dollar Guaranteed tourney sounds better than its Euro equivalent.

The thing that most annoys me is the colour of the action buttons. It would be better if they were a different colour than the awaiting action options. It's particularly frustrating when multi tabling as sometimes you do not realise the action is on you.

I found the whole thing very slow and well boring (Back on topic not the gay thing), the tourney list was awkward, couldn't find the 'tourney payout', was very hard to get used to the small tables, the slider was awkward, I was very dissapointed. I have never played anything other than tribeca, how does it compare to stars,ft etc?
