Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ok there seems to be a lot of confusion lately with the flow of the TV show "Heroes" (the "wireless in da house" thread being an example) There have been a few episodes thus far that seem to start in the middle of a story that we never saw the start of the previous week.

The reasons for this incontinuity is due to the graphic novels that are being posted online, and in fairness, if you haven't been reading them (like myself until today) there is quiet a bit of background information you are missing out on.

The graphics novels can be downloaded from here

But for those that don't have the time (or bandwidth) to read them, i'll post a brief synopsis of each graphic novel here to get you up to speed. If you think i've left anything out or need to rectify something don't hesitate to post.

    Graphic Novels:
#1: Monsters: Mohinder learns of his fathers death and remembers how his father told him not to believe in monsters yet when he gets to NY to investigate, he finds his fathers wrecked Taxi cab which appears like a monster has torn a hole in the side of it. He wishes to stay in NY to investigate further.

#2: The Crane: Hiro travels back in time from the moment of the explosion in NY. We learn that his mother named him after "Hiroshima" in rememberance of his grandfather who died from radiation after the bombing. He makes paper cranes for rememberance at the Hiroshima memorial and plans to stop the NY bombing to pay respect to the memory of his grandfather.

#3: Trial by fire: Nathan Petrelli flies into a burning building to save a lady after he saved Peter and left him in hospital.

#4: Aftermath: After crashing her boyfriends car into the wall, Claire Bennet crawls out then has to save her boyfriend from dying as the car bursts into flames, she just gets clear as the car explodes.

#5: Snapshots: DL Hawkins, Nikki's husband, breaks out of jail after he discovers his power of walking through walls and plots to find out who framed him for the murder of his gang.

#6: Stolen Time: Nikki (as Jessica) helps DL's gang rob 2 million dollars. When they try and kill her to take her share she kills DL's gang and buries them out in the desert. She hides the money as she organizes for the 2mil to be laundered over the next 6 months.

#7: Control: Matt Parkman begins to gain control of his mind reading powers as he uses them to run down an armed robber

#8: Isaacs first time: Isaac recalls the first time he remembers painting the future to Eden. It was at one of his painting exhibits where he painted a girl who was at the exhibit getting run over. The girl got freaked out, ran outside and gets run over.

#9: Life before Eden: Shows edens life growing up, her father left and her mother was abusive, she never argued with her mother until one day her mother blamed her for her father not returning. She shouted at her mother to "drop dead" which she did. She wanted a new beginning after leaving her home so she named herself "Eden"

#10: Turning point: FBI agent Audrey Hanson finds another murder by Sylar. She notices Sylar in the crowd watching the police examining the scene. She chases Sylar but he alludes her, fooling her into shooting a vagrant whom he dressed in his clothes.

#11: Fathers & Daughters: HRG heads to Edens fathers house to tell him his daughter is dead. He says he doesn't care as she was a prostitute. We learn how Mr. Bennet and the Haitian caught Sylar with tranqs just after Eden shot herself. The Haitian wipes Edens fathers memory but leaves him with the guilt of his lost daughter.

The tv episodes and graphic novels go hand in hand. #22 appeared last week giving the back story to Mr Bennet, Claude and Claire which featured in episode 17. #23 will most likely be related to episode 18 unless it's a side story like #13-16 giving the back story to a character yet to be introduced to the show.

If you've watched up to episode 18, you can read all of the synopses.

Why are these called graphic novels? They're at most 3 pages long.

dunno? been wondering this myself. Maybe the Americans colloquially use the word Novel to describe any kind of story, wouldn't have the same impact if they called it a Graphic novelette

Although I think it has more to do with the fact that a "graphic novel" (GN) is a term unto itself, rather than a novel that has graphics. It is usually used for drawing a line between comic books rather than a line between different types of Novels. A GN will usually have a beginning, middle and end, rather than the layout of a comic book which has a continuing storyline. Also, you might reason that if a picture paints a thousand words, a GN need only have 60 pictures in it to be classed as a novel ;)
