post office bank drafts, 6 months to get refund

whats the craic with this? got a letter lost in the post with a postal bank draft, they said i gotta wait 6 months before they send a refund. even thou it wasnt cashed yet, why couldnt they just cancel the cheque and send a refund? shower of cnuts

Postal orders are demand drafts which means that they are the equivalent of cash and will be accepted as guaranteed form of payment from the bearer. They are valid for 6 months from date of issue and so they can't issue a refund on the draft until the original expires.
