    Fine Gael is accusing the Government of doing nothing to address the situation that allows foreign motorists to escape punishment for many road offences.

    The party claims 20% of all penalty points are never allocated because the offending motorists are driving foreign-registered cars.

    Many of these vehicles are believed to be from the North.

    Fine Gael's Olivia Mitchell says this loophole is undermining road safety initiatives, particularly as it will also apply to speed camera detections and the new barrier-free tolls planned for the M50 motorway.
