    Hi,
I'm a TY student and for our YSI project we are studying the effects of school bags on students backs.
A small group in the class is making a short DVD presentation on how school bags and their weight are damaging students backs, and the solutions to this problem.
For this DVD we would lke to have a few statements from students themselves, so if you have any opinions on the matter, please post them here or PM me, and they may be used for this short DVD.
    Thanks,
    LMP

I've gone through 4 school bags already this year. I have so many heavy school books that 4 school bags have ripped under the pressure.

In TY there's no problem for me whatsoever as I hardly carry any books. But 3rd year was a bitch cos of all the books, exam papers and study you need to do. Plus if you've got extra sports to do or whatever it's even worse.

I had back problems for three years because of mine, being a small person with many books really did hurt. And I couldn't exactly leave them in my locker, as I needed them. It could have been a few things that caused it, but I was told that one of the major reasons was the weight of my bag. I had to go to a doctor, and then to an orthapedic specialist because my back was so bad. This year has been fine though, as I haven't had to carry that many books at all, but on a rare occasion I might get a back ache and have to start doing a load of exercises for it.

in 3rd year i carried every book i had with me, for convenience... and i never used a locker, waste of time and money tbh imo.

i'd nearly swear that bag was heavier than me though..

this year.. meh its not really heavy.

    in my school
it used to be 10 a year
this year though ,its 30 [but bigger locker, plus old ones were shared, top and bottom, current our own] and you get 15 back at end of year
sure it aint a watse of time....what else gives you a bad excuse for being late for class after lunch:D

Our teachers dont accept that about 80% of the time.. i was 20 seconds late to class on monday (literally outside the class door when the bell went) and i got a late note :|

Oh dear lord...you're doing a study on schoolbags! That about sums up TY. It never bothered me, I like schoolbags and I have a terrible back. But then again...I never did bring my books to class.

I think exam students have it extremely hard
I remember last year I actually was out of school for 2 days with back problems
because you're using huge books over 3 years, exam papers, hardbacks, stationary, folders, art portfolios.....
it's HUGE strain to put on a back

luckily in transition year I only have one book I have to bring everywhere,i'm not even using a schoolbag, just a cute little tote I got in penneys
so my back is feeling better and better
but next year it'll be back to it
my brothers have it worse though
they have to carry all their books everywhere all day long since their school has very small lockers that constantly get broken into

In my school Transition Year's have not been allocated lockers. Our backs are quite as a result. :(

You hardly bring a lot of books in Transition Year anyway in fairness.

Yeah we don't get lockers either, but the ones in our school are ****e.

Whoa, I don't think I'd be able to cope without my locker!! And all I have are like 3 folders :P. I'd hate the idea of not having a locker next year though. I haven't had a schoolbag since January though . I live so close to my school I don't really need one in ty.
