Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How to boost signal?

    Hi

I would really appreciate any advice you can give on how to boost the wireless signal from my Eircom broadband router around the house? It's very weak outside of the room where the router is, which I suspect is caused by thick concrete walls. It's a netopia router.

    Cheers,
    Aoife

    Hi Aoife,

Try experimenting with the netopia in different locations. The supplied phone cable (purple) is quite long from recollection and provided you have a power outlet nearby, try that to start.

If that doesn't improve the signal, it maybe a case of swapping out your router for a model with detachable aerials. You can buy higher gain aerials which will increase the power output of the wireless signal. Problem with the netopia's is, the aerial is fixed permanently and cannot be replaced, thus the wireless signal is crap some of the time. Thick concrete walls certainly don't help either!!!

    signal boosters are also available
    such as
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=321915
but sometimes they just refuse to extend the network also the netgear ones only work with netgear routers
also if you can put the router at the top of the house
