Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

hi flodis79, yeah I'm using the mobile broadband addons on prepay, the same three price points are available even if the service seems different.

As I've said though in previous threads, Opera Mobile is working great. I prefer it over the web browser... and i love the web browser on my E61. Operas latest offering edges it though!

    Quintron,

I've downloaded Opera Mobile and its working well on my N93 (via O2). One thing though - it seems to load the PDA version of certain sites (eg rte.ie) whereas I'd prefer to see the full thing as I would with the inbuilt browser. Is there any way around this?

    Thx

it auto renders to fit phone screen. Hit # twice and it should render page normally. If not rte have that code that automatically knows you're on a mobile browser, like engadget. Hope that helps. Writing this on the train with only a gprs signal. Hope it goes thru.

Thanks - my mistake, the rte site is rendering in full pc browser format. Must say I like the Opera browser, lots of useful little features so I reckon I'll purchase it at the end of the trial period.

I'm on prepay and I clicked on the €5.99 option to see what would happen in relation to age verification (later found out it's just for certain sites). It billed me no problem but it's having communication errors getting to any sites.

Also, I could only get to this option by clicking on a site and it saying it's out of time. If I just clicked on buy mobile broadband from the menu it said authorisation failure.

I'm hoping this is just a temporary glitch?

It is dead for me on prepaid today too at the moment.

Did you sign up to the add-on thru the handset? Is it in My 3 portal?

It is indeed, it appears under "Internet" in the Planet 3 services menu. That Three regard badly mangled http access as the Internet is another story

but has it been working at all? what phone are you using it on? u think three will change the access to include pop/smtp/tcp etc later so we can use opera mini, gmail java app and chat clients like mig33?

I don't think 3 even know how to operate a mobile phone network, probably why they keep referring to themselves as Ireland's "mobile media network" or some such.

Who cares if it doesn't work. Might as well stick with Vodafone or O2, where things in fact DO work.

It works fine for http sites, I personally use it for m.gmail.com extensively with my Motorola v3x. By "mangling", I mean the proxy setup they have uses invasive 302 redirects (for all http requests) and reformats formats the html for handsets (does a much worse job than google's xhtml site imho).

I doubt they'll open ports for pop3/imap for three pay customers. But I'll be quite surprised if https continues to be blocked, its just such an accepted part of the web!

Java apps that only use http should actually work ok, its just that opera mini's current version and gmail's app both use https. The current version of Opera Mini compresses + encrypts all access requests, but I think an old version might not have that feature- must check...

Signed up for the 5.99 version from my handset, working like a dream, I have no problems accessing any website from the N73's browser. I did notice that 3 seem to have added a "frontend" to the browser, an app called Services, where the Nokia App is called Web, open up "Web" and you get a mouse cursor to navigate the page links.

RTE seems to be stuck on PDA Edition for a while now.

I havent tried other applications yet, but HTTPS Access was working just fine for me when going to Gmail. I will download that SSH client and try it next, if it works, I will be quite happy.

where are people getting this idea? i use the gmail app and opera on my 3 phone and i have gone to both aib and boi internet banking. https is not blocked

https://tiger.avara.net:10000 doesn't work for my mate, whereas it works grand with Vodafone. 3 are now saying this is an issue with his handset, and have said to turn it off and back on again. If that doesn't work, they'll replace his handset.

You're a complete 3 hater arent you Urban, care to tell us why? Bad experience?

I personally think the new priceplans and add-ons are pretty damn good considering what the other operators offerings are.

How long does it take 3 to port numbers from Meteor? I want to buy the N73 this weekend. Can porting take place during the weekend? Maybe with tomorrow being Paddy's Day would it be better to wait until at least Monday?

    ThreePay (Pre-paid) != bill pay

As you've said in previous posts your on bill pay...

Edit: Just to be clear- I'm on ThreePay, and https is blocked from me.

surely its the same internet for both once you register your details? they wouldn't be that annoying would they? oh wait it is 3 we're talking about

edit: just rang there and the woman went and checked and she said that there's no block on https on 3pay. and she confirmed that pop3 only works to receive mail to your @3mail address

I honestly though it would be the same too given the identical price points etc. But seen as the HTTP302 Redirects sent by their proxy include a string "3prepayweb" in the address, it must be different.

I'd be very interested to see if the bill pay is setup as a more transparent proxy (If I could get a socket connection or "HTTP CONNECT" proxy to port 443, I'd go bill pay straight away!), would you or somebody else take a wireshark or tcpdump capture of the traffic of a http and then a https connection from a laptop? Cheers!

Edit: Interesting must call them again, cheers

Edit2: Called them and after explaining in detail that I wanted to connect to HTTPS / Port 443 sites (I think it was only when I mentioned port 443 that he twigged that I was talking about HTTPS), I was told that its not supported "in this case". The guy was very helpful and went off to confirm it. Oh well ThreePay & HTTPS, nice dream :'(

should be less than a day
doing it today wont matter at all

I'd like to give them a chance, but everyone who has tried them has told me bad things about them. Tell you what, I'll order a SIM card myself! If it works, I will keep it and port my existing work number from Vodafone. I will let you know how it goes.

obstacle number 1, you can't get a 3 sim card on its own. you have to buy a phone :D

    So the bottom line is:

    -AFT
    -Agile, Mig33, IM+
    -Opera Mini

    won't work on 3Pay?

Wow i've been in different threads for over a year with you and 3 and it turns out you have never even been with them
    must say im fairly suprised

i put a data sim into my n73, i can now enter any web address i like, all work
also msn, yahoo im etc work.

seems like data sims dont have the restrictions/embargos applied to prepay or pay monthly sims.

well, thats the least i would expect from a data sim when you think of it.

Well, friends of mine have though, so I feel I have near "first hand" experience. Anyway, I've bought a SIM card and phone now, so I'll let you know how it goes.

I think 3 are great, especially 3 Ireland.

I had a huge problem with my datacard in Italy recently, would not work at all. They did their damndest to get it to work (it IS now apparently) but failed. However, I made a couple of calls to them afterwards asking for compensation both for the week of line rental that I couldn't use it and a refund for all the charged calls to 333 while in Italy.

I didn't have to ask twice: they made all the adjustments on my latest bill without fail nor quibble.

Compare this with Vodafone who STILL have not yet terminated my mobile connect account despite returning the USB modem in January and who are still chasing me for over 1200€ -a bill incurred through no fault of my own.

I get the impression that 3 are trying very hard to make the service 1st class and seem very interested to learn from their customers about whatever problems there might be; pity their shop staff weren't as attentive.

One more thing which I have yet to get to the bottom of: I notice that when I was roaming using the Voodoo dataSIM in Dec-Jan, a session would regularly run up reported usage of over 600mb -despite simply surfing and checking mails. However making the same kind of usage with the 3 datacard (but including watching TV etc), I have yet to use up more than 500mb in a whole month!
