Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hello,
I'm not a massive gamer by any account... but would like to get an xbox360 to play some online games with a couple of mates from home... so only occasional gaming really....

Now my brother has given me his old xbox/controllers/4 games and gamestop near me are overring an Xbox360 plain/value for 99 euros with trade in...

Is this worth going for ? I can always get the hard drive add-on later for 99..

Just wondering what people think... the premium would cost me 299 with trade in which is a lot for the amount I play games... I just worry that i'll get the box home and wont be able to do lots of stuff without that drive...

    Opinions...

I know XBox360v2.0/Xypher etc is on the way but no one seems to know exactly when.. could me may or june... I am only going to be using the xbox beside my pc with vga cable anyways... (also dont need more than one controller and it doesnt have to be wireless etc)

Also another question ;-) how to I amplify the sound if I don't have anything that takes optical... - do loose out on surround

I would no question about it, a 360 for 99 and old hardware? yep I would be soo up there.

    Thats what I'm thinking...

I guess at 99 its a steal... I just don't want to end up spending a lot more by having to splash out on unforeseen add-ons just for normal play..

Do any games require you to have the hard drive ?
Can you use XBox Live without the hard drive ?

I dont think any games need the hard drive to work but I'm not 100%

Hmmm I'm sure you can use XBL without a hard drive but doing so will mean you wont be able to save any content/game demos or vids. (really it's needed for live interaction I think)

Cool... not interested in any of the "content" .. just want to be able jump online.. find my mates and have a quick game

There are a few games that need the hard drive, mainly the football management ones though.

Yup, there are a very minimal amount of games that need a hard drive. You need a hard drive or memory unit for online play, better off going with the hard drive, its a must really, you can download trailers and all and there's often good content on the xbox live market place like demos and stuff.
    I'm almost certain they don't accept the original xbox with that trade in deal, as far as I know its the PS2, PSP, DS maybe something else, no xbox though. This thread will help you with what to do with the sound <url>http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055063726</url&gt;

Yeah the formatting knocks a huge chunk out of your hdd space

Its the bc emulation software that takes up the rest of the space.

If you're only going to play offline, then yeah that's OK. But you'll need a memory unit to save your games. Not sure the price of the Memory units, but in the long run the HDD Unit is better value.

If you want to play online at all on Xbox Live, then you will need the Hard Drive.

Good Question ... I don't think there is a way. The only other connections I see are the on the Component cable (L+R speaker only).
