Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah I assume you'll be on the Hill but they'll have to split the fans.

dyin to get these tickets now so i know where im sittin!

Im the same as yourself. Im sure the Hill will split up by a line of guards or something with the Welsh on one side and the Irish on the other. Have to go down to the FAI today as well to collect my tickets.

You can send an ewish to the manager and team here: http://home.eircom.net/javascript/Ewishes/sep/ewishes.jsp

I got my tickets for the Slovakia game tonight. I am in the Cusack Stand Block 704 row G. They seem to be fairly decent tickets.

Lets hope we can do the business tomorrow first though, or else Wednesday will be a major letdown and I will probably have 2 tickets to off load;)

They're probably worse than Keane and Duff on the international stage. :)

A guy on a Celtic forum says he knows a member of the Ireland squad and this is the team:

    Given

    Finnan Dunne McShane O'Shea

    Douglas Carsley Ireland Kilbane

    Duff Keane

He's a regular on the forum but I'd take it with a pinch of salt.

Jesus, I hope not. Surely Doyle has to start up front.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,294 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

As I said earlier Douglas is a good player but he is not as good on the right as he is through the middle. Duff up front is no good either. I hope that is not the team!

Anyway im off in now. Come on the Ireland!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 373 ✭✭The1337_Stephen

Thats gotta be one big pinch of salt to be honest, i don't think he's stupid enough to put Duff up front... and Not play Mcgeady :O, herm.

If that's the team we deserve to lose:mad:

O'Shea is on the right, with Finnan on the left.

It looks like we're going 4-5-1 with Duff right mid, and Kilbane right, with 3 across the middle Ireland - Carsely - Douglas

1 up front at home, jaysis.

Not 100% how they will line up.

Strange team but the consolation is that Wales are equally crap so we'll see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,386 ✭✭✭EKRIUQ

What No Kevin Doyle when we need a result, and goals just seems mad and crazy???????????????????

Well that's exactly the 11 that are starting so hold the salt!

Why on earth isn't Kevin Doyle playing? This is a poor Welsh team, Staunton should have sent out an attacking lineup to really go at them. I don't get it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,080 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

oh christ what is he playing at?! what has Douglas possibly done to deserve a start over mcgeady and doyle? Is a defensive approach to this game really a good idea? Looks like stan is playing for a point rather then risk actually playing football and go for it. In an absolute Must Win Game. Cant see Keane being very effective up on his own, plays much better when someone is up with him to knock things on.

And whats the point in swapping o shea and finnan? finnan always plays on the right for pool, o shea has had a lot of playing time on the left for Man U. Why oh why mess with that?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

One up front at home, against Wales? Sack him now.

Whats the full team amd formation?

    Mike.

    Duff - Doyle - Keane

That's what he should have done.

No-one knows the formation because players look lumped in there, Stan said OShea right back with Finnan left back.

As for anything in front of the backline, anyone's guess

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

    Nobody gets it,

Honestly i think any of us could do a better job..

    It's a true disgrace.

Now i just hope to god like the pundits say that i'm wrong..

But this is going to end up being a total mess..

If i were the players i would stand up against this absolute tiit... But it's probably too late now anywa..

Oh My Lord!! I can't believe that is the team. Shudder. Come on Wales and put this rotten period for Irish soccer to bed.

Is there any real reason why Doyle and McGeedy not start or is our manager just a complete muppet. Also two defensive midfielders in the centre?? Too defensive of a line-up. And what the hell is up with the full backs?? Finnan, one of the best right backs at left back?? He is constantly coming in onto his right foot G'ah!!! He is losing out on some of his natural ability by playing there. Move him to the right and place O'Shea there god damn it.

Though all in all not a too bad start so far though I do believe we need to pick it up. Wales look a little too comfortable.

This is a shockingly sh*t game of football.

Are there any fans in Croke Park? I'm sure I heard a pin drop a few minutes ago...

Not too bad a start? Well I suppose compared to the shambles in Cyprus we can be thankful for small mercies.

Truth is it's a poor game between two very ordinary teams, neither of whom are anywhere near good enough to go to the European Championships.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

I wish we were playing Cyprus again now. At least we'd see a few goals by now (for them).

    This is awful.

    Bellamy should have scored there.

What I have noticed so far is that their is no natural width to the team on the right side.

Atmosphere is terrible and plenty of empty seats.

A friend has text me from the game and said the atmosphere is terrible too so not just an armchair comment.

I reckon a goal will come from a header.

Let's hope so, I have Dunne @ 17/1 to score from a header!

On an aside, we have looked reasonably dangerous at times, but as a number of us have alluded to already, a 3 pronged attack of Duff - Keane - Doyle would look alot more potent - especially at home!

completely disagree - we have been the better side so far, if either side deserves the lead, its Ireland.
