he was a marketing stunt to try and raise Uniteds profile in China. i think i remember them being pretty open about this at the time they signed him too...

Every 30 seconds M Lawrenson reminded me of my deep rooted desire to rip him apart, limb from limb..... dear God he's a smarmy cocky f*cker. His attemps at comedy (his puns) are woeful and then add to that his lack of respect for the viewer and his co-commentator.

    /rant

Poor game, wasn't a very good exhibition of football. Why didn't Ronaldinho make an appearance along with Fat Ron and give the crowd what they wanted to see.

Jimmy and Trevor were really annoy me over the booing thing. I'd say if they cut to the crowd most of them would have smiles on their faces.

Yeah if he said it once he said it a million times. And the irony is that he wanted the Pool players on to add a "competitive edge"
It was only friendly cajoling anyway and at least it was somewhat justified, not like the tards booing Rangers players at an Ireland match.

his bitterness is so bloody irritating. His snide remarks about O'Shea, all night, were shocking. Him and Green should never, ever, be allowed to commentate on a United match, that simply can not maintain any impartiality at all. It was horrible to listen to, and i can only feel sympathy for the other fella (can't think of his name) who just kept trying to balance what "Lawro" was saying.

"United have never lost when O'Shea has scored"
Lawro (smugness): "Oh really, how many is that then?"
"10, scored 3 this season, the winner at Anfield."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,510 ✭✭✭sprinkles

and then he laughed when Sheasy took a bad touch as if The Almighty Footballer that is Lawrenson never took a bad touch in his life. I hate the man!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,423 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

the goals thing was really irritating though - the man scored 18 goals in his entire career! the snigger at O'Shea was just bitterness, then when Fowler took a bad touch it was "Shocking, cause he normally has a perfect first touch", I just hate that man so very much. He is a disgrace to the BBC who, as they are funded by the tax-payer, should present in a neutral way, not be as blatantly biased as they are.

If I realised I didn't have to put up with the RTE commentators I would have switched over to BBC.

Every five seconds: "Ah come on now, this booing thing isn't nice".

    Got so annoying!

would have loved to see robbie fowler score and reveal a tshirt underneath with "champions of europe 5 times!" on underneath.....thats really all that kept me watching although a 15 stone fat russian kid on channel four stole my interest :D

Also, when you say you want to see United die, what kind of reaction are you expecting from the United suporters?

I understand what Gerrard ment, and as he is an Evert....Liverpool supporter (like Robbie) i can understand where he is coming from, but i'd still expect him to get boo'd for it, and for being a liverpool player, and for actually being a liverpudlian liverpool player.

was a good display that game, but is anyone else getting sick and tired of watching Ronaldo do 5 foot-overs then run into 3 defenders when hes got two team mates free to square it to? dunno how fergie puts up with him...

    Awesome talent though.

That was the whole point of last night's match. It was about showboating and entertaining a crowd in aid of charity. Sure even Gary Neville was doing back heels. But it was funny to see Ronaldo take on himself and manage to foul himself at the same time :D but you can't really comment on anybody's performance in a match like that.

ah i know bud but ronaldo has been the step-over king for the past 2 seasons and has been criticised before for his lack of final ball. Great to see though.... i wonder how much £'s worth was on that pitch last night.... anyone care to take a stab at it?

Meh, Giggs has managed to get through his career with a final ball comparable to Ronnie's, and Ronnie's is getting better so i'm not worried about it. Ronaldo is not Beckham, his game is not based on crossing from deep - we bought him as an exciting young player with great control, pace, and the ability to take people on and go past them, and that is what we have. Given that he is our top scorer this season, things are going well, and he will continue to improve as he matures, just as Ronaldinho has done (who was just as infuriating as Ronaldo at the same age)

United have plenty of songs, more than most of the teams in the premiership in fact. If you watched the Boro away game on saturday you would have heard a range of them. Its a crappy friendly match, there never is any sort of atmosphere at those type of games. Ireland's friendly internationals are the prime example.

but that was the worst i have ever seen i have been to plenty of meaningless friendlies were there was more of an atmosphere there was no singing what so ever. I suppose being a liverpool fan i am just used to fans singing instead of eating prawn sandwiches;)

What fan would go to a match like that? They can barely afford to watch United as it is.

Also, wait till you guys get a new stadium, see how loud Anfield is then.

    :D

I'm sure it'll be quiet as a graveyard, while all the fans are in the new place.

Commentary quote of the match for me was from Jimmy McGee. Why oh why is he still allowed to commentate?

During the second half: "lovely header clear from the Argentine defender Gabrial Henize. Straight out to the Korean Park who plays it to the Dane, Scholes" - em, right....

You are never really going to get a decent atmosphere at a friendly game...........sure the ST holders and regular fans don't normally go.....

So as a Liverpool fan you think there is a better atmosphere at Anfield???? I would call it a 40,000 karoke morelike, the song comes over the tannoy system and you lot sing along............., as a matter of interest have you ever been to Anfield????????

A united friendly vs a world 11 still manages to end being a united vs liverpool arguement. Classic stuff lads.

"ugh, our fans sing louder then yours"

    wah wah wah

"Our fans have more songs though"

    ****'n kids.

    He started it!

I try to make one United game a month, usually in the Stretford end and their is plenty of atmosphere. Last night's game was for the family's.

Well can you explain why United fans just last week were able to sing "Can you hear the scousers sing" followed by "shhhhhhhhh" at Anfield and have it clearly heard on tv? And that was at 0-0.

As was said above, the reason for the lack of atmosphere at the United game last night was because there would have been plenty of families at the game as it was the one game where they could get tickets. Simple as.

Thats easy home fans **** themselves when they on top and not scoring, away fans are usually pissed and only shut up when they know they cant win well in some cases. last game i was at as an Away fan we outsang home fans but **** ourselves in the last 10 and started checking times, how long is left? wheres that **** with the added time board etc:

Also odd its how most games almost always go

A thread about a meaningless friendly involving Manchester disintegrates into a slagging match. How novel! Really people, it's only football, and not even *good* football. Keep your passion for something worthy of it ;)
