Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The first-half had one of the worst pieces of defending I've seen. For Dimitar Berbatov to score a wonderful goal could only mean some poor defending from our side, otherwise, it would have simply been a lucky goal.

a piece taken from www.sportingo.com/ that pretty much sums up how the attitudes of fans change after a while at the top.

it appears to me that berbatovs goal was neither lucky, nor down to attrocious defending from chelsea (that came much later on) but down to a combination of great play from defoe, lennon and berby just playing great football.

why is it if shevchenko had passed to robben, who had dinked it to drogba to finish, it would have been hailed as sublime?
if it was scholes to giggs to rooney, there would have been shouts of 'world class'
if henry had finished off from oh... you get the point....

or is it really just pithy reporting and jingoism from an armchair sports fan?

but, is this not the sort of arrogance from the fans that made manutd the team everyone hated during the 90's, arsenal during the early 00's and that makes everyone hate chelsea now?

Berbatov is good enough for any team in the world imho. Fantastic player.

You've got it exactly. If you ask'd some fans on here, you'd have trouble finding a goal that United scored that wasn't due to bad defending.

Ah you get this in every part of the game today.

I remember when Joe Kinnear was manager of Nottingham Forest, and was complaining of exactly the same thing. He said something along the lines, that when Forest scored an Arsenal-esque it was not a beautifully flighted ball that split the defence, but rather a punt up the pitch, which the defenders couldn't handle.

sportingo is a rubbish site mate to be honest. They had that marvelous bit where Spurs were going to take over the world. What you need to understand about it is that they use fans of the teams to write articles not reporters or unbiased writers.

Its a pretty feeble comment and even as a Chelsea fan I can tell you I have a lot of respect and admiration for Berbatov. Great player and that was a sublime finish. The defending up to that point was bad but he still had to finish! All in all some of the Chelsea defending in that first half was woeful at best but you can take nothing away from the finishes.
