Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

"I want a garden" fundraising ideas?

I sent an application off about a month ago to be on the TV show "I Want A Garden" with Dermot Gavin. I had seen a few episodes last year (including the 80k ordeal) and liked the designs and figured there was no harm sending an application in, little did I think we would get accepted.
So the deal is I am 24 and doing a postgrad in NUIG and bought the house last year thanks to an interest only mortgage (so I'd better get my PhD finished before I have to start paying off the capital). I was sick of paying rent and worked out that with an interest only mortgage I'd be paying approximately the same amount as I was in rent provided I had tenants (which I do). It is an average size garden, approx 35ft X 20ft, and it'd be a great spot to chill out, have BBQ's and hopefully it'd add a nice bit onto the value of the place.
Ok so back to the show. The minimum budget required was €5000 so I went for the ambitious budget of €5005 which I can maybe stretch to €5010. The only thing is that Dermot always seems to go over budget and I simply can't afford to go over at all. The makers of the show said that I could do some fundraising if I wanted but I couldn't put any advertisements in the show cause RTE just won't allow it.
So my question is can anybody think of any ways to raise some money (around €2000 would be brilliant)? So far my ideas have been pretty poor so any suggestions would be greatly accepted.

I'm drawing a blank here but what about asking a few people in the garden/interior decor magazine business. Surely they would want to publish your garden if it was designed by D.G. If they do, well do you get paid or can you use this to your advantage in getting deals from suppliers on the basis that you name them in the magazine.

Also I know you said that RTE will not allow direct advertising but what about the patio supplier etc who turns up and delivers with their name plastered on the side of the truck or has loads of stickers with their names on it. Can you get a bit of cash back ;);) for that? I always wondered about that showhouse show and the way the designers had a limited budget and how inventive they could be getting deals. All the supplier details are on the website.

Hth, I doubt it very much. But I hope you get a nice garden out of it even though I question some of Gavin's talent.
