Depends on the range you want to use them for. Ive seen basic ones in Peats of Parnell st for under e40 Come with 8 channel but I would have reservations on their claim of 3km range!!!,

You can get a better selection at cqcomms near the Mellenium Bridge also they would have the best advice for your needs.

    CQ are too expensive...

eBay is your best bet, or even Maplin sometimes have good deals on PMR 446 twin packs. Or try Argos.

Cobra are quite good quality wise. Stay clear of Binatone. Total crud!

Its handy to be aware of the different standards used here in Europe and those used in the US/Canada. Basically the main recreational type walkie-talkies in Europe, that dont need a licence are known as PMR446. They are limited to using around 0.5watts so it means there "top" range is going to be advertised as 5km but in reality will probably be a lot less than that.

Then there is US/Canada walkie-talkies. Firstly they have channels called FRS which is more or less the same as PMR446 in that its limited to using only 0.5watts and the range is pretty dire. There is another option though on the US walkie talkies called GMRS which can transmit up to 50 watts but around 5 is more common, so most walkie talkies like this one on amazon promote ranges of up to 18 miles. Even if its only 1/10th of that figure its still pretty good for €40/50. The only problem with GMRS though is that you need an FCC licence to use it in the US, outside the US though I don't have a clue what the story is. Chances are there are no laws against it here in Ireland and even if there was your average Guard probably isnt aware of them?
