I'm going to be in Sydney for a long weekend (of easter) so I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions as to what I should do/see in Sydney..other than the obvious bridge / opera house?

    thx in advance

Catch a ferry from the harbour to Manly and spend an afternoon wandering around and having lunch on the beach. Check out Taronga Zoo. Do a bridge climb. Stroll around Darling Harbour, George St, Pitt St, The Rocks and have dim sum in Chinatown. Have a picnic in the Botanical Gardens. Buy and send to me a pack of cheezels and/or minties for giving you ideas.

Take a trip up to the Blue Mountains.

.... that's madness flying for the best part of a day to stay there for a long weekend!

I think the Blue Mountains would waste too much time. The Opera House is pretty nice. Just in case you're thinking of NOT going there, do! You can kill two birds with one stone and take pictures of the bridge when you're there too.

The Botanical Gardens are nice, if that's your thing. There are millions of massive bats silently hanging upside down from the trees there. Three children were killed by them last year alone*.

I was there four years ago, I forget it all, sorry I can't be of more help. It's a great city. A weekend could never do it justice.

    Enjoy (lucky you)!.

    *not true.

I agree, Blue Mountains would waste too much time and you're best off spending a few days up there or you'll just be rushed.

p.s. the bats aren't anywhere near as vicious as the dropbears..

it's been a couple of years since I lived there, but Taronga Zoo is worth it, or try the Aquarium (Darling Harbour, I think?) - very impressive. Or arrange a bridge climb - I loved it (expensive though).

Have heard that the Quarantine Station is worth a visit, too. And definitely a ferry ride to Manly, just for the views alone!

Or just head further up to the Northern Beaches, and relax there (check out Palm Beach, where Home and Away is filmed) - Curl Curl, DeeWhy, Collaroy are nice just for the beach experience. (I'd avoid Bondi - way too overrated!)

Wherever you go, definitely look out for dropbears, they're nasty!

    Ah god, I miss Sydney!

Daytime do all the usual sight seeing, make sure to get the manly ferry - you definitely need a few beach photos.
Palm beach(Home & Away) is about a 45 minute bus journey from Manly so leave yourself plenty of time if you're going there. Brilliant photos from there:D

Darling harbour is good fun on a weekend with buskers & things.
Wear shoes so you can hit into the casino for a bit of black jack or something.

Aboriginal arts & craft shop down around there gives you digeridoo lessons too.

Aquarium is a must see - the sharks, rays, etc... in the tunnel when you go under it are way too cool.

Bridge climb if you have money & aren't hungover & don't suffer from vertigo;)
Try to get tickets to something in the Opera house, or at least do the tour.

    Botanical gardens are beautiful.
Luna park is a waste of time.

Bondi is overrated & a stretch to get to but it's like the opera house: when you see it you definitely know you're in Oz. Lots of cool cafés there. Restaurant there called Hurricane that do the best pork ribs for $20(booking essential last time I was there).

If you are out around Bondi, you can do a walk down to Coogee that takes in all the city surf beaches like Tamarama : lots of home & away surfer dude type photos there. Bring lots of sunblock & water...

At night time, head to the rocks.
The three monkeys pub in town is good fun.

If you go to Darlin Harbour at night they have lots of poserish pub/club places.

Most nights for the Irish always end in the Courthouse in Paddington: pub that goes on till about 9 or 10 in the morning.

Have a great time - loads of great memories in that city!
