Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I dunno of a Dublin shop that sell it, maybe Elverys on Suffolk St, they used to sell gear. Lion Sports, the operators of that website are in Bangor, Co. Down.

    From Cricinfo

"The umpires consult ... and the batsmen are off faster than Peter Parker when the cakeshop opens. If there is no more play then Ireland will win on D/L. It's dark and it's raining ... and unless something changes, Pakistan are on their way out."

    whats D/L ?

It's a formula that comes into play when a second innings is rain effected. Basically the overs get reduced as does the target.

If the rain stops play then the current score gets compared to the score that the Duckworth-Lewis says would be needed to win. If you exceed the DL score then you win!!

Ireland are ahead so if the game stops tonight they win!!

Edit: According to Cricinfo it's rainning heavily in Jamaica right now

    From Cricinfo....

4.20pm Now it's raining quite hard and the tarpaulins are in place and wet.

4.15pm Because we have completed 20 overs, there will be no coming back tomorrow. The game will have to be finished today, and if there is no more play then Ireland will win the match as they are ahead on D/L. The question has to be, why on earth did Inzamam not turn to his spinners when it became clear that the light was fading and he was behind?

The rain might relent but the light is poor and unless that gets better there will be no more cricket. The Irish crowd are celebrating, but they would celebrate the grass growing, so don't read too much into that. :D

Is there any commentry on the radio?

Just to wrap up the current situation for newbies

    The score is

Pakistan 132 all out off 45.4 overs
    Ireland 81/4 27.3 overs

Ireland require another 52 runs with 6 wickets and 22.3 overs remaining

BUT Match delayed by bad light and rain.

To settle matches with rain interference, there is a system called the Duckworth/Lewis system. (or Vera Duckworth, as I refer to it :D) Its a means of fairly scoring the game in case of rain. At the moment, Ireland are ahead on the D/L system, the par score for D/L is 69, so Ireland have to be one ahead, so 70. If play does not resume, Ireland will win. If play resumes, there will be probably a reduced target with reduced overs to get the target.

So its confirmed the match has been called off due to poor light /weather?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,772 ✭✭✭Lennoxschips

Been trying to figure this out from the Sky commentary. It seems the Duckworth Lewis system is some way of deciding who'd win if it the match hadn't been called off. Basically Ireland are scoring runs at a better rate than Pakistan did, and with less wickets lost, so if it continues to rain then Ireland will be given the match.

This can only happen if Ireland go beyond 20 overs, otherwise they come back tomorrow to finish the match. But Ireland are at 25 or so overs, so the match has to be finished today, either by playing it out or by Duckworth Lewis system.

Mad sport, but strangely entertaining nonetheless.

I would've preferred to have seen them win with the bat, but the bowling effort alone deserves the victory.

O'Brien has also done very well with the bat.

The umpires will wait until there is no chance that the game can continue and then they will call it.

Until then let the nail biting commence!

Whats the chance of play in the next while? Is the reserve day out of the equation now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 303 ✭✭brian_rbk

20 overs have been bowled in the Irish innings so there is no chance that the reserve day will be used.

If umpires decide that conditions are satisfactory for play then they'll be back out.

I think 10:15 Irish time is the time to look out for.... if they don't play before then......
