I loved Vice City. The music, the style of it, everything. It just needed some more hills :)

I have to say I like San Andreas too. I'm playing it for the second time now. I love it except for the f**king gang wars. Is there any way to just cheat past them? Some kind of 100% territory cheat or something? That 'your hood is under attack!' crap gets in the way of my general mayhem around the city :)

the gangs wasnt that great an idea in fairness... its damn annoying running back to Los Santos all the time to gain your hoods again

bit late on the train there Ruu, but welcome aboard anyway :D

you'll quickly realise how freakin big it is, just by the boundaries of the first city... enjoy it!

Ah I had it on the PS2 but left all that stuff at home. Now all I have is Vice City and been messing around with that (only on the Death Row mission and
have to rescue that plonker Lance Vance).
:) I remember a mate of mine had a massive map from SA that you get with the game, should be fun.

There's no cheat that I know of, but here's a half solution. When you get the message saying that you're neighbourhood is under attack, it seems like you have two options:

Option 1: Go and help your mates, win, gain respect and keep your territory.

Option 2: Ignore it, lose respect and lose your territory.

now here's the trick. There's an option 3:

Go to your nearest safe house and save the game when you get the warning. The Territory status will be reset to what it was before you got the warning, IE, You don't lose respect, you keep your territory and you keep your sanity. OK, so it's not a cheat, and you still end up having to find a safe house, but it's better than being interupted and having to travel from the north side of Las Venturas to the South of Los Santos for a silly fight you really couldn't be arsed doing. The downside is of course that you still need to start wars at some stage in order to gain new territories.

I vote for the first GTA on the PC. It was the ground breaker. I was awesome. Of the 3D ones I think its a tie between VC and SA. I loved the Music and the feel of stuff in VC but i also love all the extra stuff that they put into SA. Like making yur character yur own by all the customizations u can go and leveling up in all the different areas. The one thing that i was pretty disappointed about in SA was the radio stations. I really don't think they're good at all, nowhere near as good as all the others including the top down versions.

I loved GTA vice city, everything about, the storey, the music and the culture backround, san andreas ruined the storey line, some black dude from the getto starts off as a nobody and ends up robbing area 51 and alian crap!

As annoying as that message is, I think the gangs idea was definately a good one.

I always hated it in GTAIII the way it was virtually impossible to go back to the mafia territory after you had assasinated the don. This was because your normal mafia gang member now carried a shotgun - so if you were driving through that area of portland with the mafia in it, then two shots and your car blows up. Because so many gang members appear in that area, they all shoot you at once and you're wasted straight away.

In SA you can get it so that you never have to deal with that crap again. You can take over all territories and wipe out all the other gangs. Its not as big a pain to do that as some people think. You get loads of ammo for various weapons from it.

CAn you actually finsih off the rival gangs? so they're forever finished? I quite like the gang fights but I wish I could turn it off when I wasn't interested!

I love trying to take a territory, getting wasted, respawning with no guns or armour, mug a loan gangster for a pistol and start again...

If you get the girlfriend that appears at the country club in San Fierro, you will respawn with all of your weapons :) You only need to date her once for this.

You'll only lose them if you get busted by the cops. That can be sorted out with a cop girlfriend from one of the middle of nowhere redneck towns in bone county.

Yup. I've taken over 100% of the territories and all you need to do after that is go to the map, toggle the option that shows gang areas so that it doesn't, and then forget that you ever had to deal with rival gangs.

There are some tricky areas though ie areas that are tiny, but still classified as an area that you can take over. I would advise getting the two girlfriends that were mentioned above before you do this though - that way, you never lose weapons or ammo even if you die trying to take over a territory.

Get 100% in vice city - its well worth it:

    weapons appearing at your houses
    infinite ammo
    tougher vehicles
    hunter near your house
    and a brand new T-Shirt!

[how can you resist that last one? :D ]

What was the message that you got again if you managed to run over ALL of the elvis impersonators?? I can't remember it but I know there was one.

    The message was GOURANGA!!!!! ;)

Well I have played every single GTA game to date, (except Liberty City Stories And VC Stories - mainly cos I stay well clear of Sony!) also the (literally unknow) GTA London 1961 add on for GTA London '69,

That means getting 100% in every game (even GTA 2 collecting those GTA icons dotted around the place)

What can I say, I loved them all, but though most will disagree GTA SA is the best without a doubt,

Some of the many best features may have been overlooked in this thread (e.g rallying up you gangs, modding your cars/character, the limited but insanely funny 2 player mode - great when your locked! The ability to SWIM!! Pig Bikes, the NRG bike, LOADS!)

There are so many great things about SA, too many to mention, however the one game of them all that I played the most was definitely GTA2 when it came out, I just loved the radio stations and the insane handling (with extra screechy turning mechanics ;) )

But overall GTA SA kicks ass over them all!

In the GTA3 series, it's probably San Andreas > GTA3 > Vice city.
    After that, probably 2 > 1 > London

San andreas is definatly the best!
theres so much to explore and so much to find out

Vice city is a close second because of its amazing soundtrack
    and its just great fun

Gta 3 is just as good as Vice city but its just slightely more basic
    but its still amazing!

    I totally agree.

There are a few posters here saying SA was a huge dissappointment - I'm not sure they're rating it fairly.

When GTAIII came out, we didn't really know what to expect - we got a totally savage game, streets ahead of Driver 2 which happened to be out at the time (as one person reviewing GTAIII said, "This is the game Driver 2 should have been").

When GTAVC was released, we were now used to the new GTA generation, and we expected more - VC definately delivered. Basically the same game, but our lead character was speaking for a change, the music was savage, and flying was a real option (of course there are more but I'm not going to go into every single one here).

When San Andreas came out, we expected even more again. I think expectancy can ruin a person's experience of a game. If you hadn't played GTAIII or VC before playing SA, then IMO you would be of the opinion that SA is a class game - it has its flaws of course, but there are endless opportunities for entertainment. There are loads of mini games around the place, and the addition of the manual aiming system is a godsend (there is something hugely satisfying in shooting down a helicopter with a gatling gun). Yeah sure, the map is huge, but that's what we wanted and expected. Vice City was a class game, but the map was very much on the small side of things. People complaining about certain areas of the map being empty, what did you expect? Its the countryside - there are going to be fields and hills. They can't make EVERY SINGLE SQUARE FOOT on the map interesting. They've managed to fit in a huge variety of landscape types: Desert, Las Vegas type city, Countryside, Normal everyday city, and a gang-controlled city.

Yeah its a huge game, but thats what we were asking for after VC. We got the huge game we wanted, its not perfect, but its definately an improvement from VC. The only real hassle I have with it is the fact that you can't buy as many properties as I would have liked to buy, and the whole "ten different safe houses, ONE type of building" thing was annoying. Loading times just to go in/out of doors is silly too.

San Andreas wins it for me. Vice City was class but a little on the small side.

Vice City Stories is very good. I think the gang system in this is slightly better. Taking over businesses and stuff. Add in jet-skis more wierdness from Ranni Wassulmeyer, missions starring Phil Collins (including a concert) and another '80s soundtrack and this is turning out to be quiet good.

    Hi,

I have played some GTA on PS2 before, but I'm not even sure what one,

what do you think is the best GTA?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36,634 ✭✭✭✭Ruu_Old

Vice City for me without a shadow of a doubt.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,066 ✭✭✭Sea Devils

I would have to go with Vice City. Although the twist at the end was a little hard to take some of the missions in this game were unreal. Plus the things they came up with Lovefist, Mercedes and Mitch Baker. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if that really did happen in Miami in the 80's

Some of the missions in VCS were new and the system was great in it. Gotta say San Andreas tho.
