    Decent shower at least ..

I want an ice up tonight and some mysterous unexpected low to form to our north and move down the Irish sea:eek: :o

Just looked at the animated radar on met. Are those showers starting to push easterly off the Irish sea?

Not much snow here last night. Still bits on the ground though. Think I was just unlucky. Temp currently +4.5

Winds have definately turned straight northerly here and very gusty another shower will push into Northern Dublin in the coming 40 minutes

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,235 ✭✭✭lucernarian

An extremely heavy snow shower, equalling the heaviest yet, just finished there. Snow was starting to stick again but it only lasted 10 minutes. It's nice to see it snowing despite the peak of solar activity in the day.

I also observed one other thing: Our house is aligned NNE-SSW roughly and that snow was definetely blowing almost parallel to the house. It's almost too close to call but I think there's an easterly element in it now:)

God, I've lost count of the separate snow showers which have hit here. In my memory, this NWerly remains unequalled for the volume of snow showers.

Sheets of convection to the far noth

    http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/images/ukvis_sat_200703191300.jpg

This cold snap still has 36/48 hours to give us a lash..

A few tasty showers off the Irish sea can do the bus

Cold air temps at 850hpa of -10c over a warm Irish sea with a NE breeze would be sweet.. Lets do some hoping ;)

6z suggests showers down the East tomorrow but not tonight.

Even if we don't get any decent fall of snow, i still love days like this, Northerly Gale whistling through the house with huge shower clouds whisking by.. Its the reason why i love the weather so much, days like these.. Even if i don't get the ultimate im still happy ;)

Find it hard to trust the GFS precip after the last few days be it one way or another ;)

mixed hail and sleet shower here now most of which has travelled down the coast or out at sea.
It's only came 2 miles inland.
Just west of here is sun.

Wind is NW so how that came ashore at all is a mystery.

air temp is 5.6c and the dew is 0.6c

Does the Sally Gap area have lying snow or is it melting? Is it worth a trip?

I *think there is going to be a big increase in showers into the north from 1600hrs as big sheets of cold convection is sweeping down from the Northm hard to pick out on the IR because the air is so cold..

    http://wind.met.fu-berlin.de/cgi-bin/meteosat.cgi?speed=12&count=16&intervall=30&refresh=10&playmode=Endlos

The UKMET Vis shows the banks well

Showers seem to be dying down up north and whats left will be just cloud here in Dublin area.
Pressure on the rise here 1010hpa.

Convection seems to be decreasing on the visible WC

More fragmented and losing its intensity looking at that and compared to yesterday.

Temp now 6.7c thats coming close to yesterdays high.

Well I can see lugnaquilla from here and it's like mont Blanc,so I'd say there is some snow in the area of sally gap.
That said all the snow is gone from the surrounding area here except above 1500ft or so.

    2 showers, 1pm and 2pm.

First one, temp dropped from 8C to 3C, 2nd one had pea sized hail, but temp didn't drop near as much.

Great eyesight ,i cant see anything of interest there. No cbs worth talking about compared to yesterday.:( No disturbances at all.Looks like a cold layer of stratus more than anything else.Give it up man,tis dead in the water.:)

Showers intensity is decreasing from the west with nothing north of Ireland on radar to show any interest.Looks like the ridge of high pressure is pushing in from the west quicker than was first forecast.Any showers left in the east will start to ease down in awhile and after sundown clear skies and an ice is left to be main concern with showers remaining up northern coasts.

12z GFS says the opposite at +18hrs the HP is pushed circa 30 miles west of where the 6z progged it plus more shower activity progged than on the 6z even though i dont believe the exact postioning and intensity of GFS precip proggs

WC,I thought you threw the towel in:p

Fax charts have the nose or ridge over the country within 24hrs,id say less.
At this stage the natural eye can tell you a damping down of showers now also my pressure has risen 2hpa in 1 1/5 hrs.

You can visually see the whole lot of intensity transfereing east now over the UK.Pressure is on the rise from our west

No point in looking for showers if the isotherm was -20 850hpa if the pressure is too high.

Next Vis Sat will be crucial for keeping my hopes alive.. To see if the showers to the faaaaaar north retreat or intensify ;)

And reason for no showers in west on that radar is because the Shannon radar wasnt working in the last 2 snaps!! ;)
