I have a regular linksys router and Im just wondering what speed I should be getting between the router and my laptop?

At the moment Im getting a signal strength of excellent but a speed of 18mbps.. Is this quite low?

Do mean you have a connection speed of 18Mbps? Or when you transfer a file from A to B it maxs out at 18Mbps?

Wireless is not duplex like wired networks so it's only going to be half as fast (i.e. the throughput on a 54Mbps network is ideally 27Mbps). In practice it's typically less than this so 18Mbps for a G network sounds about right. A B network (11Mbps) prob tops out at 5Mbps.
