Mike, from that page, the West Indies were second seeds in that group... so there is the likelhood that Ireland will be D1, taking Pakistan's place.

Une sec... I posted this up the other day.

It's been conveniently removed from the ICC site. Argh!

It did say (from other sites)
"Team names for the Super Eight stage are indicative based on the top two teams from the Group Stage qualifying. If these two teams do qualify they will be seeded in position 1 or 2 as specified regardless of whether they finish first or second in their group. For example, if South Africa wins Group A and Australia comes second, for the purposes of the Super Eights, South Africa will still be A2 and Australia will be A1."

Pakistan were D1, West Indies are D2.

Wouldn't WI go up a seed and then Eire take WIs place?

I thought the same as you, but apparently not according to Sky Sports News... After announcing Windies victory over Zimbabwe they pointed out that this meant they were likely to face Australia in the first game of the Super 8s...

But Sky Sports News have probably been wrong before.

That's what my schedule above says... first game against Aus on the 27th.

Pakistan were D1, West Indies are D2.

But according to that logic then, as per Wiki, WI are seeded 6th and Ireland 13th so then WI are D1 and Eire are D2???

Not necessarily so. This was drawn up so tour packages could be drawn up.

But as it has been removed from the ICC site... who knows! I still think that if Ireland qualify, we are D1

What arbeitsscheuer saw on Sky Sports News is that D2, the West Indies, play Australia on the 27th.

No... you are right. You must be. Otherwise tour companies would be fecked.

    Amended schedule then:

    30 D1 v C2 ODI Providence Stadium, Guyana 15:30 - Kenya/England
    3 D1 v A2 ODI Providence Stadium, Guyana 15:30 - Probably South Africa
    9 D1 v C1 ODI Providence Stadium, Guyana 15:30 - Probably New Zealand

    15 B2 v D1 ODI Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados 15:30 - India/Bangladesh
    18 D1 v B1 ODI National Cricket Stadium, St George`s, Grenada 15:30 - Probably Sri Lanka

I really don't think that the ICC bargained for this scenario. :D When I read that piece I pasted initally on the ICC website, IIRC it went on further to say that if a lower ranked team qualified, they would take the place of the seeded team they knocked out. So, Pakistan are out, Ireland and Zimbabwe are looking at D1.

Cricket sometimes doesnt help itself in confusing folk further!

The last 3 games for Ireland (should they go through) would be rough going... 3 games in 6 days

If you think beyond rankings and rather turn to logic then what you are saying makes perfect sense.

If I remember the draw for the group stages right, the 8 top ranked teams were seeded into the groups. England were specifally seeded in such a way that the ICC knew they would draw a crowd from Blighty.

    You couldnt make it up!

    mike, I've got it.

    From the BBC Schedule
If any seeded team does not finish in the top two in their group, the non-seeded team qualifying will take their allotted place in the Super Eight fixture list.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/4699023.stm (at the Super 8 part)

Its also on the Wikipedia page too.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Cricket_World_Cup#Super_8
If these two teams do qualify they will be seeded in position 1 or 2 as specified regardless of whether they finish first or second in their group. For example, if South Africa win Group A and Australia come second, for the purposes of the Super Eights, South Africa will still be A2 and Australia will be A1.

If these two teams do not qualify from their group they will be replaced in their indicative position by the team that qualifies instead of them. For example, if Scotland qualify instead of Australia, Scotland will become A1.

And that table on that wiki link has the Windies as D2.

    D1 it is then. Phew!
