Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Whats the deal with Desmond being able to see into the future and only being able to see things involving Charlie and other stupid meaningless things?

I think seeing Charlie falling off a cliff and dying trying to catch a seagull is important for Charlie to know and warn him but there is a bigger picture happening on the island so why doesn't he use his abilities to see what is going to happen with the Others

Or is he one of them..................

he does not have an ability per-say. He cannot control what he sees and this is something he makes very clear. Things just come to him in flashes.

Exactly....but it could be that he already lived those moments because he said his life flashed before his eyes when he blew up the hatch.......

How come his flashes seem to involve Charlie? How come he doesnt see Patchys brain melting or the Flame station blowing up and stuff.

His first flash was about Locke, so maybe he just gets flashes involving those who were in the hatch when the key was turned.

if he already lived it he would only have seen Charlie die once and Desmond has saved Charlies life several times

Exactly, which is very confusing. How could he have seen the second/third time Charlie dies IF Charlie died the first time. But again, he cannot control what and when he sees it.

But he intervened and prevented that. Charlie is destined to die so the universe is constantly changing events til he does die like was explained in that episode with his backstory, he was never meant to ask Penny to marry him so when he tried to change it he got knocked out by the barman to prevent him doing it. Desmond is just prolonging it.

If it involves Locke then how come he didnt see Locke pressing the buttons in flashback or pushing Patchy in the field thing.

He's seeing flashes of Charlie's death (in many ways!) so I'm guessing when he shot "at a boar" and scared the birds off one way, he prevented one death, and when he got the bird from the rock he prevented another (different) death.

As he said, he has no control over what he sees in the flashes, like Charlie Dying or Lockes speach, so there's no point in trying to rationalize "Why doesn't he see this/stop that from happening"
