Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Relationship of changing Langelier and pH in water.

    For any industrial chemists out there that specialise in the chemistry of water as it passes through a pipework system, look at these figures for water chemistry entering a pipe system and the water chemistry leaving it :


    Water in :

    pH 6.5

    Alkalinity 305 mg/l

    TDS 467 mg/l

    Cl 39.6 mg/l

    Ca 33.7 mg/l

    Cu 0.02 mg/l

    Na 21.8 mg/l

    Langelier Index -1.58



    Water out :

    pH 7

    Alkalinity 355 mg/l

    TDS 580 mg/l

    Cl 56.2 mg/l

    Ca 0.01 mg/l

    Cu 6.13 mg/l

    Na 214.9 mg/l

    Langelier Index -2.52



    The water appears to improve in pH as it passes through the system, being buffered by some agents it picks up on the way, probably rising levels of copper compounds. Sodium raises quite a degree and Chlorine as Chloride to a lesser degree.

    However the Langelier Saturation Index gets more aggressive, and very much so, although the pH improves to neutral.

    So whats going on here?
