Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Installing WindowsXP on external hard drive

    Hi.
I bought a new laptop this week, and the current operating system is Windows Vista. However, some of my old programs won't run in Vista, so I was thinking about maybe installing Windows XP onto my external, and using a dual boot jobbie. Are there any major problems with my plan? Haven't done this before, and I wouldn't know an awful lot about it.

    Thanks,
    M

Just a quick question but have you tried setting the compatibility mode on the properties of said programs exe's to XP SP2 and see if they run ?

Or tried turning off UAC ?

As for the other query it largely depends on the whether the external USB HD is supported by the bios and if so XP's installer see's it so it can install onto it.

(Just saw this pop up today a new compatibility update for Vista worth installing as well to see if it resolves any issues you are having.)

^ What he said. If your BIOS doesn't allow you to boot up from an ext HD then you're screwed.

Better option would be to partition your laptop HD, have one partition for vista, one for XP and a third one for data to be shared between the two OS's.

You can't install windows on removable drives.

Also you would need a non-OEM windows XP license.
VISTA home license won't allow down grade to XP and besides a version of VISTA like Business that did, doesn't allow you to install on a different partition, never mind a different drive.

If you get a non-OEM XP license then you'd have to reinstall Vista again AFTER installing XP. Lots of fun and games.
