    Folks,

Is there anything you can wash a windscreen with to remove grease/grime? I filled the washer with water but there are streaks on the windshield and it's hard to see out.

i have heard wiping the screen with newspaper/paper towels and a bit of vinegar does the trick - also give the wipers a quick clean with the vinegar too. Someone mentioned it this forum a month or so back.

I have that problem with my windscreen, but i haven't got round to seeing if the vinegar thing works.

Buy some of the concentrated additive and put it in the washer bottle with the water.

Pour a can of coke over it... seriously, the phosphoric acid is a great degreaser.

Ummm yea the acid has degreasing properties BUT then there is the suggery, brown, caffinated, vegtable extract softdrink not only all over your windsheild but also probably your bonnet and clogging up the cars drainage canals with sticky crap...

That is possibly the most daft suggestion i have ever heard :p

    Oh Oh i know...
I hear Maple syrup is great for cleaning glass, Try that OP

I used to know a few reps for coke and they used it all the time given that they got the coke for free, it works a treat.

    1. In many states (in the USA) the highway
patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to
remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

    2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of
Coke and it will be gone in two days.

    3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola
into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit
for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in
Coke removes stains from vitreous China.

    4. To remove rust spots from chrome car
bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of
Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

    5. To clean corrosion from car battery
terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the
terminals to bubble away the corrosion

    6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth
soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several
    minutes.

    7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of
Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in
aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the
ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the
drippings to mix with the Coke for sumptuous brown
    gravy.

    8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can
of Coke into a load of greasy clothes, add
detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The
Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains.

    9. It will also clean road haze from your
    windshield.

    For Your Info:

    1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric
acid. Its pH is 2.8 . It will dissolve a nail in
    about 4 days.
Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from
bones and is a major contributor to the rising
    increase in osteoporosis.

    2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate)
the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material
place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

    3. The distributors of Coke have been using it
to clean the engines of their trucks for

    about 20 years!

    Fair enough.

    I sit corrected.

Once again the inpractice methods of the world seemingly flaunt a disregard for any graspable common sence.

    Tried it, Doesnt work..
It makes it softer and prone to breaking up when poked, but wont dissolve it

Same effect is gotten from water.. Sparkeling or still

Tried it, (In desperation i might add), Couldnt get it to work so bit the bullet and drove the 30 min to get WD40... Much better option.

FFS Lidl have a special offer for windshield cleaner this week. For the princely sum of €1.25 you can make 25 litres of washer fluid that will remove dirt and road film.
Just be sensible and don't bother fúcking about with cans of coke and the like, as soon as a truck drives in front of you on a wet day you will find the road film all over your screen again and if you haven't got a can of coke handy what then?

Many, if not most, of these so-called uses for coke have been systematically busted on Mythbusters.

I agree with CJHaughey, get some decent screen cleaner .. it'll be cheaper in the long run, and might actually work as well.

So you just get normal tinfoil, dip it in Coke, and rub the chrome??

just thought i should reply to this one.

My brother's girlfriend's sister is a chef (a very good one at that) and she cooked a dinner for herself, and the group of friends. Part of the meal was ham baked in Coke, or something similar - it was definitely something baked in Coke, and according to everyone at the table, it was absolutely lovely. So, its nowhere near as crazy as it sounds!

(another highlight of the dinner, according to my bro, was soup served in a hollowed loaf of bread - so you rip the loaf away to dip into the soup, and when the soup is gone, so is the 'bowl'!)

Best solution bar none and is useable over and over

Holts Screenies. It's a blue tin with a white cap. Used to be called Mixra.

Spray on white foam to wet window, leave for a minute or so and wipe with washer on. Scum free.

    Trust me it's brilliant......

    coke me ar$e

The Coke thing is a load of Boll***

However try Holts one Shot in the washer. It's the only washer additive I have found that does a really good job. You can get it in Woodies or most services stations, even get it in Tesco. It will even clean off the wax that some auto washers spray on your windshield. Not cheap - about 2 yoyos a pop.

As for weekly window cleaning use turtlewax clearvue glass polish, comes in a dark blue bottle. But don't do it in full sun or it drys too quick and then is a bugqer to get right after.

Agree with AlanD - Mixra as it was known would clean anything.

   I can't beleive you people are thinking of wasting coke like this!?!?

You can just use water here with the foil. I tried it myself during the week on my bike and it worked a treat - one of my syspension springs had some rust spots and the foil got rid of them. Also Tesco have at least 10 different types of cleaners and if anybody wants a ham recipe send me a pm ;)

The little bottles of orange stuff work a treat and smell great too.

Use a clay bar the type used for bodywork. Use with a cup of boiled water with car shampoo in it. roll it into a ball and then flatten like a pan cake, keep it well lubricated with the soapy water and rub the screen. You will be amazed at the tar gunk tree sap and bits of embedded disc brake it removes from your screen.

That's an old one Wazdakka. Mrs Wisbone Ash steeps the ham overnight in several litres of Coke. Yum, yum. :)

    Folks,

Is there anything you can wash a windscreen with to remove grease/grime? I filled the washer with water but there are streaks on the windshield and it's hard to see out.

I use jif bathroom mousse spray.
    Its in a large can.

Spray it on and leave it for 30 seconds then use your wipers and then either spray it off with the water or throw a bucket of water on it.

Absolutely spotless....and no, I'm not joking.
