Âme (Kristian Beyer & Frank Weidermann) hail from the small town of Karlsruhe near Frankfurt in Germany. Having met in Kristian’s record shop "Plattentasche" and various gigs around the area they realised that they shared a similar taste in music and so 6 years ago they decided to start working together.

Kristian has always been turned on by the voices shouting out of motor city by the likes of Moodyman, Underground Resistance and Carl Craig as well as the New York City Sound of Blaze and Metro Area, whereas Frank’s broad spectrum of influences ranges from Chateau Flight, John Tejada over to IG Culture and Jazzanova.

    Âme´s
sound is easily accessible without ever loosing deepness, complexity and a distinct twist. Their inspirations, how diverse they might be, are clevery quoted but never copied. With a career that started of with a B-Side on a Sampler for Dixon´s Off Limits mix Series has since then shot off to become a success story.

In the time they have been together they have released a string of tracks on labels such as Defected, Ibidan, Buzzin Fly, Sonar Kollektiv and Innervisions (which they co-own with Dixon). To date though there biggest achievement has been “Rej” which was the biggest track of Ibiza in the summer and was played by everyone from Eric Morillo to Roger Sanchez to Laurent Garnier to Pete Tong and Charles Webster “Rej” was also voted Mixmag no. 1 dance song of the year 2006.

They followed this up with a mix album simply entitled “Mixing” on Berlin based label Sonar Kollektiv and in 2007 they are set to mix the next installment of the Coast to Coast series on NRK Records which previously has been mixed by the likes of Kerri Chandler & Quentin Harris.

As we speak the story of Âme continues with pushing the boundaries of new sounds, patterns and arrangements and with a hectic Dj schedule and more material due to be released 2007 looks like it’s going to be even busier than 2006 for Âme.

Kristian Beyer (Ame) plays for Re:Publik, March 30th with support from Paul Mac & Neil Flynn @ Stage 2, The Forum, Waterford.
