Looks like play will resume at some stage over the next while, but with the Windies batting and D/L revised total

thats not good news for Ireland.. we would of wanted to have batted the ful 50 overs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,611 ✭✭✭carlop

any idea on what the revised total's gonna be?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

Yeah thats bad news. If we had little chance with 200ish on the board, we have no chance with them chasing the 180ish thats the likely target. The team do look slightly rudderless without TJ.

I agree, altho a soggy damp pitch could help reduce the West Indian run rate.

I'll settle for today (and tomorrow) to be rained off ;)

    India 35-1

West Indies' Duckworth Lewis target would be 178 off 45 if the rest of these overs are lost. - from Cricinfo

None as yet, will update as soon as I know

Will we be hampered by the DL system since we didn't get a chance a slog any runs at the end of our innings?

Just read that though, doesnt seem to make much sense seeing as Ireland made 161/6 from 45.2 ovs

This isnt good news. We could have really gone for it in the last 5 overs to try and get some runs on the board. Its gonna take one hell of a performance from our bowlers and fielders to win this game.

Any news on when play will resume? Is it still raining?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Are we sure Ireland won't continuing batting? Will have only been an hour long stoppage.... ??

It didnt look like we were able to go for it. Will just have to deal with whatever the umpires decide now.

    Play about to resume

    match reduced to 48 overs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Micheal Holding making a lot of sense asking why the game is reduced to 48 overs. Saying (quite correctly) not to bother with the 30 min break between innings and bowl the 50 overs

    White gone!

    163-7

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Mooney gone for his first ball in the world cup.

    163-8

    Bravo on a hat trick...

Uh oh. Hopefully we can make something of the last 2 overs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    4!

    170/8

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    no ball and runs!

    handy 5 lol

    last ball again

    183-8 for the 48 overs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Haha exciting ending there and we managed to miser a few runs

    183 runs from 48 overs..

So 48 overs for the Windies to get 184 runs.. It isn't IMPOSSIBLE that we could win but highly unlikely..

Were in with a half a shout though ;)

The target will be less than that id say based on D/L

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

Might D/L add a run or two onto that total?

Why is it finished after 48 overs? I thought you played up to 50 overs unless you're out of players.

It says on the aol site:
"West Indies need 190 runs to win from 48.0 overs Between innings."

    I'm lost.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

West Indies actually need to get 190 to win from the 48 overs. Duckworth and Lews have done us a favour!

    Yayyyy:D

    Not a terrible innings really.

Betfair has the West Indies at 1.03 ... is there really that little of a chance:eek: ??

Probably. 10 overs of Gayle and we're sunk

Ireland were 120/1 to beat Zimbabwe at one point in the first match.

Could anyone tell me why its finished after 48 over and why the WI can't win with 184?

Yeah thats right but there was a rain delay so the number of overs was reduced.

D/L gave ire a few extra runs as they were planning at the start to bat the 50 overs and would have supposedly got more of a move on had they known it was only 48 at the start.

it says on bbc that west indies won without even batting???

The rain delay caused the reduction in the number of overs. The Duckworth-Lewis calculations then apply. Complicated system but basically let's say you know at the start you only need tobat 20 overs. You can then play more attacking shots because it's unlikely that you will loose all your wickets. The d-l calculations try to take this into account to make for a fair contest. As Ireland batted 48 of a scheduled 50 overs the adjusted target is only marginally higher than the actual score but the principle is the same

ah, now it's changed. That was weird

Anyone know how the Windies -99.5 handicap works on betfair now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

Gayle gone 24-1. Was looking to finish it off quickly.

Maybe half a chance now that Gayle is out. Still none too optimistic. C'mon Ireland!

Cheers. Why couldn't they just play the extra 2 overs? It'd only take a few minutes. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

Thats a good question, they were questioning that on sky. The umpires must have thought that it would be a tight finish if the extra 4 overs had to be bowled.

By the way India look to be on their way home, 112-6 against sri lanka.

Good over from Ireland there. Lets hope they can keep this up.

    India in a HUGH hole - 126-6 off 31.

    Roughly half 7

Struggling since Gayle is gone? Ireland had a better average at this stage. :)

until Brian Lara hasent been bowled out Ireland dont have any chance at all

Thanks, the latest time that play must end at is 10:45pm, it is for all the CWC games in Jamaica. (9:45pm in the eastern Carribean)

Each innings takes 3 hr 30 m, which meant that the time left until 10:45pm was 3 hr 15m.

So that explains the 4 overs missing :)

Ireland need to bowl yorkers !!!

its turning out to be a clilds play now !!!
