    ok....

so ive organised enough of these in ireland.
ive even organised some in the UK!

now, for a more antipodean flavour, how does melbourne beers sound?

so myself and my lovely partner are moving over next month to melbourne, and what better way to meet people than to go out and get drunk as a lord?

im thinking around last week in april, maybe early may?

who for a start lives around melbourne, and who would be willing to meet up?

Wont be there for a beer sorry (wish I was) but am interested to know why you are moving to Melbourne?

We might be doing the same late this year or early next year.

Are you going on the skilled migrant visa? We are.
Was it easy to arrange? Did you use an agent?

Have you been to melbourne many times, what are your impressions of it?

Are you shippping stuff out there?

Will hook up for a beer as soon as we get there!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi man1

We're moving to Melbourne and have what was almost an easier route than the skilled migrant applicants - WWMan was born in Oz. I applied for a spouse visa (keep your joint christmas cards for years people) and got it very quickly - but I put a ton of work into the application. We didn't use an agent for my spouse visa - it was a convoluted process, but I'd rather do these things myself. Seemed to do something right, it was granted in 36 hours.

We're shipping stuff - next Thursday to be precise - but we're in the UK, not Dublin. We've heard mixed reviews about Oman, who seem to be the main Irish shipping people.

We were in Melbourne for three weeks at Christmas and WWMan has a bunch of relatives over there. We loved it - not just for the atmosphere, but for the potential of living in a country that hasn't been commandeered by the baby boomers and priced out of our reach.

There seems to be a good few people on here who've applied for the skilled migrant visa so they should be able to help you, but again immi.gov.au is a pretty excellent resource as government information resources go.

on a persaonal note with Oman, they seemed to be pretty good. i can get a better view, as one of my relatives used them in november, and will let you know.

    Thanks for the advice minesajackdaniels
We are using that website, it is very good and is helping us with most of our questions. I was just looking for peoples personal experiences, Got some good advice from daveq (thanks again) http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055066890

Good to know there are people in the same boat so when I get stuck with all the paperwork etc I have someone who can share their experiences and advice with.

Good luck in 3 weeks, let me know how you get on with the big move. Might see you in a year.

    Great, thanks for that!
Had a look at their website.
We are deciding if we should just sell most of stuff before we go or bring it with us.
It all depends on cost, storage, how long it will take to sell up here etc
It might cost us more to ship stuff like furniture, white goods etc than to buy it new when we get there, I would imagine it will???

there is also a company called seven seas that will ship by the box, so if youarent taking furniture, then that may be the way to go for personal belongings and clothes etc.

im still waiting to get in touch re the Oman situation, and will give you an update when i get the info.

    Your welcome.

I'd be on for a Melbourne boards beer sometime after December if we get our visa. Final hurdle tomorrow. Meds!! That and waiting for our police checks to come back. But unless my wife has a deep, dark past she hasn't told me about we should be ok!!

MAJD & WWM what suburb you off to?

    Very helpful at careline.
    http://www.careline.ie/oz.html
She didnt want to give me an estimate at first, she said they would call out to give a free estimate after seeing what stuff we have.
We are not sure if we want to sell some of it before we go so I asked for an idea of an average sized house with contents.
A full container solely for your stuff would be in the region of €4,500 to €5,500.
    You pay 20% up front.
They come to your home and pack everything for you with all their specialised boxes, packaging etc...
They have an agent in Oz who would meet the container and ensure it gets to you.
    Around 8-10 weeks she reckons.

It is a lot IMO but it gives you an idea, we probably wont be taking everything , maybe half i'd say so if it is half of that price it wont be too bad I suppose.

I will try other companies to compare.

Check out this search result. Loads of threads about experiences with shipping companies. I remember reading some horror stories as well!!

I'll post back here as we progress. Meds went fine. Doctor took blood, blood pressure, examined us all. Really nice Doctor in Galway (Dr Little). Cost E80 per adult and E50 for my son. Shipped us off to the hospital for X-rays which cost E40 pp. (son didn't need them). Got the X-rays back yesterday and have to drop them to the doctor today.

Called into Tuam Garda 3-4 weeks ago for the background check. Garda took all our details and said we should have it in a few days. That’s about 4 weeks ago!! Will give them a call today. If anyone reads this in the future you don’t need the detailed police check that takes some 7 weeks. That’s only if your working with children. It's only a character check, so we’ve been told. Garda does the background check, fills out the form and it's signed by the superintendent. The Australian immigration service were not clear which one we needed, nor were the Garda's so this info might save someone else a lot of trouble.

Once that’s done, were done. Then the waiting game.

To anyone applying the Australian immigration service are right up to date with processing. We got called for the Meds very quickly after they acknowledged receipt of the application. Therefore we hope, fingers crossed, to get our visa result during the summer.

    Hope this helps.

Did everything go well with all the checks, doctors etc Dave?

I saw in your other thread that you just have to invest $100 grand now to finalise everything. Is that needed on top of the work skills required?

When we started the application my wife was 29. We hoped to have a decision before she turned 30 which would mean we would reach 120 points. It turned out we had a delay with the TRA and she had turned 30 by the time we applied for the visa. We were therefore 5 points short. Investing a bond of $100K will give you an extra 5 points so they (Adelaide possessing centre) have just requested that. The good news is our agent stated that they only ask for the bond once everything else is passed and they are ready to issue the visa. So it should be closed soon we hope :)
