If you have a digital service (Sky/BBC) it'll be on the red button on Saturday, live.

    On BBC, of course.

A great run by Britton: 14th and 2nd non-African. Brilliant.

    Beat all the Britons! :D

What a strange race in the men's...

Heartiest congratulations to Fionnuala Britton - forget the 2nd in Europe bit, 14th in the world in a championship held in Africe!!! It doesn't get much better than that. Her coach from childhood, Pat Diskin, also deserves great credit.

I bought 2 sunday newspapers today - the Irish Mail on Sunday (British owned) and the Sunday Tribune (Irish owned). One of them did a small piece on Britton's achievement yesterday; the other one not a word. Guess which did which?

Unfortunately folks the normal joe punter does give a damm about someone finishing 14th in the Race, espically with no irish team or teams. Hopefully finnoula can continue her development, she really has came on a ton in the last year. With the World X in Edingburgh next year, the climate and hopefully the mud will suit a bit better.

Anyone heard anything about how the Ethopian men's team all dropped out??

Rummor has it the Kenyain officails were all out to catch EPO in the Ethopian team. Rummor says it would be easier to catch in the heat.
    Something very fishy there!

    They didn't all drop out.

I'm sorry, but Saturday's meet was a World Championship and should, therefore, have been covered by our national press and our national broadcaster.

They covered the Soccer world cup, despite no Irish presence, because soccer fans are interested in soccer. Why doesn't the same apply to Athletics?

The Ethiopians had finishers in 14th, 15th and 16th.

Conditions didn't suit them at all. Bekele said, “Suddenly, I felt that my coordination was not good and that my mind was dizzy. I even started to doubt about how many laps I still had to run....and I felt that I lost all my energy. I was slowing down and felt that I was losing control over my body as well as my mind. This is why I decided to stop the race."

Haven't found any quotes from Dibaba but the Ethiopians seem to have suffered in the conditions in all 4 races. Apparently 18% of all starters dropped out. Shows how good a performance Fionnuala Britton put in!

Tadesse is now reigning world champion over road and country, he'll be going for the track title in Osaka in August.

May I ask, where did you hear this from?

Mustn't have been giving it to their women! I'd imagine T Dibaba would be high on a list of "favoured recipients".

Sounds like the kind of snide, baseless rumours one reads about on letsrun.
