    hello there,

This is a somewhat sad question, but does anyone know where a man can go to meet women in Cork ?
I'm 42 and back on the single trail after a good few years absence, and I'd like to meet someone around my own age, but all the pubs in the city seem to be full of young people and I feel like a dirty old man !!

Any information would be greatly appreciated

Nothing sad at all about it, man. 'Least you are doing something positive to rectify the situation.

A couple of acquaintances of mine in a similar situation swear that the public bars of city centre hotels are a decent venue to meet women of an appropriate age. Not the slappers and wagons of indeterminate middle-age that you'll come across in the seedier bars around the place!

And maybe you should consider joining a few clubs and hobby groups?

Long Valley - Hi-Bi - Corner House - An Spailpín Fánach.

    All ages frequent those pubs.

I'm also 42 and none of my buddies would go to the Pubs you've just listed (well Long Valley by day for a sandwich) and An Spailpan if a gig but they would normally hang out at Dan Lowreys (McCurtain Street), Scotts, Souths (Imperial Hotel), Counihans, or the Everyman Palace Club night on a Friday - really casual - very mixed age, good music - not the usual "15 year old clubbers" !!! The "Liquid Lounge" - Club above Clancy's fairly mixed too. Another great place to go is City Limits, the Comedy Club on Coburg Street - so you get entertained and there's a nice mixed bunch of people - depending on what comedian is playing. People go the the Sky Bar next door on Coburg Street first. With the summer coming there will be more Al Fresco dining/drinking - so you'll have more of a chance to Socialise!

Or head out of the city - just 2 miles to Douglas - and the South County Bar, nice crowd in there.

Good Luck!!! And don't start feeling like "the oldest swinger in town" there are loads of people out there! Have fun.......................

I agree. If you are interested in meeting more "mature" ladies in a meat market the best places are probably upstairs in Scotts, Everyman on a Friday and the Old Oak.

Gee - so now a 42 year old girl is "mature" ouch, that hurts - I feel like I have more pep than the average 21 year old. The phrase is "life begins at 40" so that means I'm........... 2!?*

    Hello again,

Thanks for all the advise and locations, I'll have a look at all of them just for research and reference purposes, and the fact that any excuse for a pint will do !!
And sure, you'd never know who you'd meet

    Thanks again one and all

I agree with the Counihans downstairs comment - nice mature crowd, good service and an old look to the bar itself. Upstairs can be full of much younger heads.

You should also entertain thoughts of heading to Costigans on Washington street(slightly younger but still generally around the 30's.)

If you want to let the hair down and go mad at the end of the night you can also head over to the Old Oak - forget Scotts, you will probably get some, but the quality will be pretty bad. Reminds me of ROCO disco but with drink and everyone is 40, not a pretty sight. Bit of a meat mart.

You mustn't have been in Scotts for a while, it is predominantly frequented by non Irish female hotties, non Irish male gym freaks and a spattering of Irish folk. It was as you described about 5 years ago. What you describe is more or less the last chance saloon that is the Old Oak :p

I agree with the verdict on old oak- after midnight it is a pretty desperate place- top of that they have a guy following with a remote cam on ladies bums (based on his aestaetical verdict, mind you)- which is creepy to put it mildly

Serious ? The dude works there ? How strange. The Old Oak is an awful place, full of muck savages and sadoes in general.
