eircom prepared a defence against smart winning the court case on the 3g licence last year, it involved their 2.3ghz 'rurtel'' band which is far larger than any 3g allocation ( eircom have 50mhz or 70mhz or so) Once smart lost the court case eircom went back squatting this block while they went ahead with 3g .

Rumour is someone has gone into Comreg requesting they complete the 'review' of the 2.3Ghz band that eircom are no longer pretending to have plans for since they got their 3G licence

    remember this last year

Then again, Comreg are useless so expect nothing .

3.5ghz is totally underused but 2.3Ghz ( a larger block) is virtually unused and is available for licencing in the 5 big cities at a minimum and possibly other cities , now, today.

2.3ghz may only be used in rural areas for WLL/Rurtel .

The old Chorus WLL block is around that area and up for reallocation too. To further muddy waters eircom have 2 separate licences around there. Rurtel and and a further WLL block with no rural only restriction .
