Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey guys,
I've got a new laptop with vista installed on front of me and I'd like to set it up for a friend. Now, it's got Norton & all that rubbish on it so I'll take it off but, unlike with xp, I'm not sure what the essential free apps are (xp has avg, ad aware etc.).

    Any recommendations/suggestions?

    Cheers,
    Quad

    This may be helpful http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_Software_Compatibility_List

Both AVG and Ad-Aware are in the "Works" category.

I quite like ImgBurn for burning CD images. I think it can do nero-style disc mastering too but I haven't tried. Its from the same guy that wrote DVD Decryptor.
I used to put IrfanView on every XP PC i used but I quite like the picture viewer thingy in Vista.
I use Paint.net (http://www.getpaint.net) and The GIMP (www.gimp.org) for image editing - both free.

Nero which has it's pro's & con's has a nice plugin for Media Centre in Vista so it will convert and burn anything in your library to a video DVD.

If you want a sort of expose style program for Vista, not my thing but some may like it try Switcher

Foxit Reader - don't bother with that Adobe rubbish, a much better PDF reader.
