The Input control is the thermostat which controls how much charge the heater will take overnight and therefore how hot it will be in the morning.
The Output control operates a flap on the top of the heater and allows you to retain some of the heat until the evening.
The input control will probably be between halfway and two thirds way towards the max.
The output control setting depends on whether you are there during the day, if not, set the output to minimum overnight and turn it up when you come in.
Storage heaters don't use any day units.
If you have a combi heater then there will be a convector heater mounted on the front of the storage heater. This works just like a regular convector and has its own thermostat.
The most efficient way to use storage heaters is generally to select a temperature setting and leave them alone. The idea is that the whole house starts to heat up and store heat after a while.
