I have had this weird problem with my phoneline the past few weeks.

Broadband works grand with the odd few dissconnects every now and again, nothing much to be worried about.

When I pick up my phone (BT line) I will hear a tone like I never hung up on anyone and when I try to dial, nothing happens.

    First thing I try:
If I dial my phone (BT line) using my moms (eircom line) - it rings.
    Pick it up and nothing.
Ring back again while the receiver is still picked up and it rings engaged.

    Second thing I try:
I plugged in 2 other different phones and same thing.

Tried to get BT to fix thins for 2 weeks and between emails and calls they have logged "Resolved" under my account every 3-4 days until I see it up on the account page on their website and ring up to tell them it is NOT FIXED.
They want to try and tell me it is a phone problem.
Had a microfilter on it all the time BTW.

As pretty fed up with all this.....anyone any ideas.
At least being with Eircom woulda cut out the middleman in this mess.

    Thanks Bob

Bought a new phone.....BT (btw)...no go. Can't even get it to ring by dialing it with the eircom one.

Thing is BT are reluctant to send out a Engineer and maybe lose some money themselves...got the runaround for 2 weeks with them.

Have you anything else on the line skybox or lots of other extensions?

can you get another phone somewhere too and see if it works

The setup I have is it's split into the router and then on an extension to my phone but I have tested it into the wall direct with nothing else and same thing.

The latest they want me to do after another trip to their helpline is unplug from the wall for over 3 hours and try that.

Will let ye know how that goes.

Ok a while since the last update on this.

There is no point in posting the line "Can You belive that BT will not send out an engineer to look at my line as they don't think it is a fault in the line" with a question mark on the end.

    Of course you believe it.

They reccomend that I "look up a telephone engineer in the golden pages"

    WTF???????????

I should aslo add that people can phone me and it rings but when I pick up I get a constant hum and tone like I am on the line with someone but nobody there.

I have tried 4 different phone including a BT one and same thing.
Pick up the phone and get a constant tone/humming.

    Should also add....no skybox.

I will be bald before long I swear with 3 weeks of BT agent fob offs.

When are we going to get more competition into the country to get these people to earn their money.??
