Heard Eve, Apple of my Eye, yesterday by BellX1 and it had that effect on me.

After listening to the words, they're nothing particularly special, but the song as a whole just blew me away!!

    Johnny Cash - Hurt
    Arcade Fire - Wake Up

Both times I remember literally stopping what I was doing and gaping at the radio. For Hurt, it was that first line that got me, while for Wake Up it was the chorus of voices. That's the only two times that I've ever done that.

Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)
Guns 'N' Roses - November Rain
Son House - Death Letter Blues

probably a good few more, Hendrix, Pink Floyd etc. but the above came to mind first

Venus in Furs by the Velvet Underground, was about 14 when I heard it first (in '93, around the time they reformed I think).
I'd never heard anything like it before, still have never really had the same experience listening to a song since!

There is a light that never goes out by the smith. when i first heard it the sheer emotion in the words and delivery blew me away. the song speaks to thousands and give them a poetic outpost for them. i urge you to go listen to the song and tell me what you think.

Biffy Clyro - Living is a problem because everything dies.

been a fan of the band for years and after hearing this track off their soon to be release album it knocked me for six.

    epic^2 is an understatement.

There's a few that spring to mind.

At 12 years of age 'Time Of Your Life' by Green Day was sensational the first time I heard it but not so much now thanks to countless schools that insist on using it as their graduation song, hence murdering it.

'American English' by Idlewild and 'Valentine' by Delays both had the 'Wow' factor for me. Amazing tunes.

From a quick browse of my library.. couldn't just pick one. Just some:

Arcade Fire - "Rebellion" / "Wake Up"
    Emm Gryner - "Blackwinged Bird"
Elliott Smith "Miss Misery" / "Waltz #2"
    Imogen Heap "Hide And Seek"
    Damien Rice - "Volcano" / "9 Crimes"
    Snow Patrol - "Run"
Counting Crows - "Raining In Baltimore" / "Round Here"

Loads more but gotta get my ass to work!

A lot of Queen songs, when I first heard them; Bohemian Rhapsody, The Prophets Song, Don't Stop Me Now (got an amazing rush of adrenaline when I first heard this), The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke etc.

There's too many to mention, from a variety of bands/musicians, but the most recent one that literally made me stop what I was doing and listen to the lyrics has to be 'Waiting for my real life to begin' by Colin Hay. Check it out people, it's amazing.

    Think that's 'Beautiful World'.

'Overkill' is better but 'Beautiful World' is very good also.

Yeah love both of them. Overkill is fantastic.

Shamefully, like most people, I only knew him from his hit with Men at Work - 'Down Under' (good song) and then I saw Scrubs and had to look him up and got his album.

'Love Is Innocent' is great too...and 'I Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You'

Still, I think 'Waiting For My Real Life To Begin' is my favourite. I dunno how I felt when I first heard it...it was kind of half sad, half enlightened!!!!

Definitely! But I'm a big fan of theirs anyway so I loved it. It's still one of my favourite ever songs.

The Guillemots - We're Here. Just heard it today, I'm hooked on them now!
