    Hi Folks,

Looking to improve the performance of a 5 year old Dell L100r.

OS - Windows 2000 advanced server sr 4 with 194,864 kb of ram.

Currently used for Itunes, burning CD's to an external burner, storing \ printing digital photos, internet down loading etc.

Running very slow probably due to the OS version not suited changing OS is not an option.

    Any suggestions welcome

    Thanks

RAM & HD are the easiest ways of updating it.

According to Crucial the maximum amount of RAM supported is 512MB of SDRAM.

If you purchase two of these from Crucial it will bring up them RAM to 512MB & make things run a lot smoother.

Next is the hard drive, get a more modern & faster unit like this Seagate drive. You can use software like Norton Ghost to clone the existing Windows install over to the new HD so you don't have to re-install.

You may also want to get yourself a decent internal writer as well like this NEC unit.

That's about it really the CPU it uses is a PIII & those can only be acquired through eBay & the like not much point in upgrading if it is near the 1Ghz mark as that's where the PIII's top out.
