Does it run like crap for anyone else? It runs absolutely perfect on XP for me, everything set to high + 4xAA but it stutters like crazy if I set it near medium settings on Vista.

Is this a ram issue? I know that Vista eats a lot and BF2 does too (I've 2gb btw), every other game pretty much works great for me...

    Specs: 3700+, 2gb DDR, 8800GTS 640mb

runs sh1t for me also, runs sweet on XP maxed out on 1280x1024. I dual boot I use vista for general use and when I want to play I just use XP.

I think its a nvidia driver issue that needs to be fixed.

Runs like sh1te for me too. Intel E6600, 2GB, 7800GTX.

yeah running with 101.41 its definitely a driver issue lots of people having problems with nVidia cards especially with the 8800s or any cards running in Sli like my 7950gtx.

Dont know anything about performance with ATI though.

i would imagine it's to do with the fact that vista eats nearly twice as much RAM up as XP does, and as we all know, BF2 is a memory hog too...

What kind of monitors you all got? Big ones? over 20"?

You can turn off all them themes in vista!? I had the beta one ages ago and you change it back to the windows 2000 theme? Try that maybe? :D

Yeah you can do that and tried it in compatibility mode and switching off all the fancy bells and whistles.
Believe me when I tell you I have looked into this extensively and it’s defiantly a driver issue not a memory issue that has been suggested earlier in this thread.

I hope it gets sorted by the end of the month im ordering the rest of my parts then!

I have an 19" LCD also!

I have a 20.1" widescreen which is doubly annoying as BF2 does not support widescreen at all. Sure you can set the resolution using command line arguments, but it just stretches it out, screwing up the aspect ratio.

I'm running the latest official drivers (100.65). Might try the 101.41 mentioned above. I assume they're beta drivers?

Also, to whoever was bitching about the RAM consumption in Vista: It will use up as much as it can get to cache things and generally attempt to speed things up. It'll release it when some other process requires it.

Oh for God's sake you're suprised?

    Vista is a system whore.

Vista + games = bad idea.

There are no Microsoft approved nvidia drivers for Vista. So don't bother.

    Vista Ultimate

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭dazftw

    Maybe its just ultimate?

Ive said this loads of times I dont think anyone really needs ultimate.. its just home premium with all the business stuff and a little extra security? Im not sure on that though :D

Id say its drivers as Auvers said!

To willymuncher(lol) what other games do you play? That would be more demanding that BF2?

I certainly hope so, I don't have the money at the moment to go upgrading my machine for one game.

There are new leaked 101.70 drivers out, downloading now, gonna give them a try and see if they improve anything, people are saying good things about them so far.

    [EDIT]
They do seem to improve things a lot, I can now run it at Max settings with AAx2 no problems, they also fixed the Texas holdem flashing text issue, Nvidia are getting somewhere at last me thinks.

    runs perfectly on my laptop, t7200 ( 2ghz ) 2gb ram, vista enterprise and a qquadro 120mvs ( 7400 go with 256mb dedicated ram )

All games run on this fine to be honest. I never had a problem. Even at higher resolutions.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

Those new 101.70 beta drivers seem to be doing the trick :)

At last now it will scale the game properly instead of just stretching it on my widescreen, I can live with black bars at the side!

    I use Vista Home Premium, Core 2 E6400 @3.4Ghz, 2Gb Team Xtreem @ddr2-850, x1800xt 512 @700/1600

I have no issues playing BF2/2142 on Vista at all.

Its the nvidia vista drivers, they're terrible.
