I'm not feeling entirely pessimistic about Arsenal's chances against Liverpool, so that probably means they'll lose.

However, Arsenal may have their first choice defence for the 2nd time this season, and their first choice midfield, so they should have a good chance against a Liverpool side with one eye on the Eindhoven clash.

Added to the Double over Utd. About the only achievement gotten from this wretched season.

Interesting formation for the match. Gerrard as aux striker I guess!

Bad miss from Baptista, he should have at leats hit the target. Adebayor had a bad header earlier, Liverpool playing much the better stuff.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 620 ✭✭✭NotWormBoy

Finally that <expletive deleted> scores a good header.

And in other news, Gillett looks bored out of his tree.

Thats the difference the quality of the ball into the box. 2-0 Crouch.

Great what a few weeks off can do for your game is'nt it? Mascharano having a great game too.

    Mike.

2-0 at half time to Liverpool, and I am pretty p1ssed off. Not one shot on target for Arsenal. How bottlers like Hleb and Baptista are getting their game, I'll never know. Diaby and Clichy are playing well for Arsenal, but Liverpool's midfield are first to every tackle, and I'd fear for the second half if we don't get our act together fast.

    Good flowing game from Liverpool.

Arsenal's heads are back in London. Not at the races at all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Lehmann booked right at the end there, silly.

If this game pans out as it should from here, then it poses a few questions about how many strikers Liverpool actually need. Rafa played with two holding/passing MFers at Valencia with one striker feeding off the wing play and the attacking MFer.

    Mike.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,079 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

I like the selection he's made, playing everyone to their strengths.

Masch and Alonso in the center with Gerrard allowed to push on. Attacking full backs (each who supplied the crosses for the goals) and 2 attacking wingers, with crouch thriving with the decent service.

Could change the formation easily putting in say Bellers for one of the wingers and playing him as a wing forward. Garcia would be perfect for this role too, and Kuyt has done it a lot in Hollands 3 man attack.

Good first half, hopefully can push on and dominate the second.

Would love to see Gonzalez push on now in the second half, show us what he can do, and do some damage haring down the wing with his pace.

Lehmann has 6 yellows this season. How does a keeper get 6 yellows? (rhetorical question, I know he's a loon)

Although it's looking unlikely, Arsenal could very easily get back into this. But more of the same determination and discipline from the pool in the 2nd half and the points are in the bag.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,473 ✭✭✭Roddy23

Nice shot from Adebayor there, was hoping Diaby what crack the rebound in.

3-0 Agger, assist by Aurelio. Excellent. Wouldn't mind 4 now, just to get some more pride back for those other three defeats.

Cracking save by Reina too to tip it onto the post.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,473 ✭✭✭Roddy23

Great save from Reina. 3-0 down, and Hleb decides to shoot from outside the box. Now we know what we have to do to get him to shoot.

without henry and more importantly vieira, arsenal are nothing.

ok, they hold onto the ball well and kock it about But they can't win it back or penetrate with it.

If arsenge wenger was at Utd or Chelsea, he'd be sacked. SAF was on the verge of being sacked after finishing 3rd and winning nothing

there's talk of JM being sacked as Chelsea are underperforming

But it seems everyone turns a blind eye to Arsenal. Nobody wants to have a pop at Wenger or lay into Arsenal. At Chelsea and Utd, even liverpool, the knives are always being sharpened.

    /QUOTE]

What a crock of sh1t. We are missing Henry, vanPersie and Gilberto today. 3 players who would easily get their game for Utd. 3 players who would have a major contribution to make in any game. I don't mean to take anything away from Liverpool, as today they are playing very well.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 620 ✭✭✭NotWormBoy

Bleedin' hell. Crouch again. 4-1. Hat trick. Nice footwork to make the shot. Good buildup too.

3 first team players missing is no excuse for getting hammered and totally outclassed against your rivals.

Arsenal play fantastic - on the ground football - the way it should be played. But they have no steel, no strength.

At least a keown, adams, vieira etc.. could command respect from the opposition. But i look at that arsenal side and there's no-one i'd fear.

There's no-one i'd back out of a 50-50 challenge with. Maybe only gilberto if he was playing.

4th place is not good enough for Arsenal. With more balls and steel, they could at least be challenging the top 2. At the minute, they're playing for champions league football.

****ing disaster. Wenger needs to sort his team out .

Are these the same guys who won 6-3 against the same team awhile ago?

Arsenal have been missing three top class players: Henry, Van Persie, and Gilberto.
Basically their top two forwards and best midfielder.
Imagine Chelsea without Drogba, Shevchenko, and Lampard
Imagine United without Rooney, Saha and Scholes
Imagine Liverpool without Crouch, Kuyt, and Gerrard

While Arsenal are certainly lacking this season, you can't overlook their injuries.

    ---

Crouch was immense today, but I was even more impressed with the midfield. Alonso and Mascherano were incredible. Mascherano offers the same defensive abilities but is a better passer than Momo. He seems like he is starting to find his feet in the English game.
But seriously, Crouch probably played the best game of his career, it was immense.

    Ah life is good! :D

Apart from 10 mins when Zenden was on the left but drifting inside, the Liverpool set-up was bang on the money. Mascherano is the new Didi. Great timing by Crouncinho with increased talk of a move in the summer. More of the same against PSV please.

Good start from Blackburn against United. I'd say Hughes has told the team today that they need to get some sort of result or they can forget about qualifying for the UEFA Cup again.

As PHB alluded to, if you're gonna say things like that you can't overlook liverpool losing 3 times already to arsenal this season so it's not exactly right to base your whole judgment on the team by one match. Of course that doesn't mean arsenal weren't **** today and they still have had a disaster of a season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭Raskolnikov

What's all this about Gilberto being a top class player? I'm not saying he's rubbish but he's prone to some howlers of matches at the same time.

I had a bad feeling about todays match and Utd are living up to it.
Playing woeful stuff and Vidic out for months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Rooney really should have put United two up. Realistically though, he can't miss another chance like that, can he :P

Problem with United is that Saha isn't back, we are still really missing him. Vidic out is a major major major major major blow :/

The change that Fergie will make will be Park for Ole, the question is do you bring him on right now, or do you wait until the 70th minute to see how things go?
I'd bring him on now myself, we gotta win this.
