Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    hi,

firstly if it doesn't say a network card is wireless in the description in device manager is it safe to assume it isn't?

if so then, to buy one and put it in, is it pretty much the same as for a desktop, i have never messed with the insides of a laptop before so im just wondering is there anything to be careful of or different to a desktop apart from the obvious?

anyone know if pc world would do this for you while you wait?

    last question....

how do you stop someone 'next door' say from connecting to your broadband connection if they have wireless net card... (eircom BB)

any help much appreciated!!! thanks :)

I think the best and easiest thing in your situation would be to use a USB wireless adapter like http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Peripherals/Network+Products/Adapter/Wireless-G+%2854Mbps%29/+D-Link+USB+2.0+54mbps+Direct+Port+Wireless+Adapter?productId=22697 .

To block other users from getting at your wireless network you need to encrypt the connection. WPA and WEP are the 2 types of encryption. When you have the wireless router setup you should be able to login and set one of these options.

You will then have the password / key to access the network and other user's can't access your network without this.

    Hope this helps.

what laptop do you have? If you laptop is anyways recent the chances are it already has wireless - if it hasnt another way to add wireless capability is via one of these -http://netgear.co.uk/extra/h_wirelessnetworkcard_wg511.php

They are handier than a usb wireless dongle (as per carrolltimmy's post above) if you intend to travel a lot with the laptop or use it in college or cafes. the card slips into a pcmcia slot in the laptop. they should be available in any decent computer shop.

Have you turned off all security in the router - its a good first if temporary step?
