Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wireless Printing

I overheard a woman yesterday in a computer shop inquiring about being able to connect her laptop to her printer wirelessly. She obviously had gotten word from the met office that we are going to have a great summer as she intends to sit in the back garden working with her laptop while the printer is sensibly avoiding excessive sun burn damage in her bedroom. The printer would not be connected to a pc.

Today I noticed a belkin gizmo for doing this type of thing in the Argos catalogue but it warned to check compatibility with your printer (it didnt say how!).

So I am just curious to see if anybody has a similar set up and how well it works and of course what are you using to achieve it.

This gadget is a print server. Here's another one. You could connect it to your wireless router to be able to print wirelessly.

To check that your printer will work, try putting in the model of the print server and your printer in a search engine. Better still, poke around the manufacturer's website for such information.

You can also have the printer connected to a PC. You then share this printer so that is accessible network-wide. Of course, the PC needs to be on to use the printer in this case [acting as a server] and is wasting power really.

Some printers also have built in wireless, a few of the high range HP's have this facility. On top of that, a lot of printers come with Bluetooth compatibility, needing only a bluetooth dongle plugged into it.

Print servers mentioned above, are also another good method, allowing anyone who's on the network to use the printer.

As dob said there are some printers with wireless built in. These are normally expensive but they do the job.
