Can anyone help me on buying a Linksys router to work with a 3G datacard ???

Does the datacard have to have a USB connection ? Or does the datacard connect straight into any of these routers ???

Why I'm asking this is to find out if I can use 3 or Vodafone as I have a Vista laptop which isn't compatibale with any of the 3G cards yet.

Also I have looked at a couple of Linksys devices.... anyone know which is the best for the above setup ?? If any !!!

    Thanks for that....

Anyone know anything about 3 ???? They just told me they have step by step instructions on how to configure for Vista. Anyone had any experience ?

I'd be surprised if your laptop can't work with the cards,
unless it doesn't have a PCMCIA slot, which isn't Vista's fault.

Linksys seem to have a deal (though I can't see how they'll enforce it)
with Vodafone and say only Voda 3G cards work with their box.
These routers have a PCMCIA slot

For a few dollars more, you can get a Phoebus router which has
worked with any card I've put into it (Three card and 3 different Voda ones).
It also has a serial port for an external modem for backup link,
which is why I chose it over the Linksys.

I think you could manage something cheaper though!
If you have a 3G phone you can put the SIM in, just buy a bluetooth
adapter for €20 or use the phone on a USB cable as a modem.
It will only get you a 384k connection, but if you're due an upgade or
have a spare phone, it's quick and cheap.
I've used a Nokia 6680 and a SE V800 for these cards and they work fine.
Added bonus is you can stick your net connection in your pocket when you go out,
and have a browser, email client and chat on it.
Check out "Fring" which (if your contract allows it) even
lets you make VOIP calls from the Nokia (or any series 60 phone).

    Good luck with the options!

The Linksys router also works with 3's card. It's not locked or anything at all.
