Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Even FIFA hates Cork it seems.

Healy & Farrelly Appeal Turned Down

Cork City FC have this evening been informed that their appeals to have Gareth Farrely and Colin Healy cleared to play for the club have been rejected. Both appeals on similar grounds and are now being examinded by the club solicitor Olan Kelleher. Manager Damien Richardson told CorkCityFC.ie of his "extreme disappointment" at the outcome but said that his disappointment "pales in comparison to the disappointment felt by the two lads".

Richardson confirmed that Cork City do have the right to appeal the decision but stated that he does not know whether there is a point in doing so as the appeal would be based on the same grounds. It appears from the decision that neither Healy or Farrelly will be allowed to play for any club until July.

once again Fifa screws the little man. the Mascherano decision set a precedent that you'd imagine that any ruling would have to follow... restraint of trade and consideration for summer season etc.

sure Jesus Jon Stead even more blatenly crossed the rules by having 3 moves within the one season (Sunderland, Derby, Sheffield United) in the same country, and noone batted an eyelid! And he had even made important noticeable contributions to each team, scoring in their respective leagues for each, http://home.skysports.com/player.aspx?plid=14177&clid=49&cpid=8

I dont get it, they just seem to randomly decide to enforce or ignore that rule whenever they like..

    Very unfair (illegal?) ruling.

I hope the players and/or CCFC take FIFA to Brussels over this.

What is the reason for not letting them play?

Eh? Court? (They're not in Brussels)

Yeah, to court. I know FIFA are based in Switzerland where they can hide behind criminal immunity like the IOC.

    No they can't really.
Cork can take them to the European Court of arbitration, and they will win. If they threaten to do this, FIFA will back down instantly, as they will lose

It shouldnt have to go to that though. A total joke of a situation this is.

Roy Keane was almost right a few weeks ago, he just didn't go far enough.

Obviously this all stems from Pat Dolan's time in charge of the team.

    It's his fault.

Or maybe 'the dub' Rico is part of the conspiracy? And Lennox too?

    Are they to blame?

Because the team is from Cork. Keep up RT!! ;)

What is the reason for not letting them play?
Same reason Mascherano shouldn't be getting a game at Liverpool.

Difference being that governing bodies like to 'accomodate' Liverpool FC a lot more than they like to treat Cork teams fairly.

I think that's it's fair enough to block Healy's transfer, and I'm saying that as a Cork City supporter. In 2006 he played for Sunderland, Livingston, Barnsley and then Bradford, all in the one year! From April 3rd 2006 and to present, Cork City will be his 4th team. Same story with Farrelly; Bohs, Leicester, Blackpool and now Cork City.

Liverpool threathened to take it to the European Court. Denying someone basic rights of employment etc.

Not sure if Cork did this. It needs to be taken to that stage by someone. Until then its at FIFA's whim.

The Mascherano deal wasn't the first, so I don't think the comments are fair about Liverpool.

Christ, I didn't realise both had switched between that many clubs.

How come no one blames the clubs and/or players? They know the rules yet club hop/buy/sell players and just expected to be allowed to do as they please.

At this stage in football we should just get rid of rules/contrtacts etc as they are worthless in the end. Especially when the old "give me what I want or I'll take you to court" line can be used to get your way.

Erm, because it's a different season here now maybe?

The rules should be tweaked to accomodate players changing clubs in a break between seasons.

These two lads weren't the only LoI players affected by this, but they are the only ones who have been told they can't play.

Shels, for example, have been without three players until last weekend.

So FIFA are for giving dispensations, as we see with Liverpool and Shelbourne.

Which is why I called this thread the Anti-Cork conspiracy :D

it could be because the People's Republic of Cork doesn't have a Fifa approved FA?:p

Yewah, but it's not and as it stands, they know the rules.

Plus, was it not mentioned that these 2 players have been at 4 clubs, whereas for the rest it is their 3rd? Maybe FIFA thought they could bend the rules at 3 but these lads are taking the piss.

Because the players are UNEMPLOYED. What is the player supposed to do? Sit on his arse waiting for months to sign for a club? The rules are illegal under EU law so the clubs are dead right to try and sign the player.

He's supposed to not leave 3 clubs and try play for a 4th inside a year. The rules are fairly clear.

TBH nobody is stopping him from being employed. FIFA are just saying they cant play in any competition in their jurisdiction (sp?) . They make the rules for participation in competitions sanctioned by them.

that doesn't make sense either as the players are paid to play competitions sanctioned by them. it's part of thier job description and this law prevents them from working.
