Saw the ad the other day and thought it looked interesting.

TG4 will be screening a documentary on gay sports teams tomorrow night (Wednesday 4th) at 9:30. The Emerald Warriors will be on it anyway, not sure about the Dublin Devils.

Why have anything speically aimed at one group of people was the point i was making. Surely everything separates us?

ok if its that simple then fair enough i probably just assumed it was to make some sort of point .............i still kinda think they should just play on a normal team though seen as there are no teams(i am aware of) is the point that sexuality should not be used as a seperating(right word???) factor not somethine the gay community tries to push

maybe im making something out of nothing just wondering out loud thats all

Its a good way to meet like minded individuals in a comfortable surrounding.

I would imagine some straight guys wouldn't feel comfortable showering with an openly gay man, ridicule and potentially physical abuse may result, those elements of risk are somewhat reduced in an all gay environment.

Meh, when I was a kid and a teacher of mine was pushing for me to take up rugby, I was warned not to join the club in clontarf as I wasn't from the right backround and wouldn't be easily accepted. Thats not have a dig in rugby but people do tend to want to be on teams with people like themselves, you see it all over the place in sport.

From someone watching the documentary now (and having played against the Warriors) I think, from an outside perspective, it's obvious it's nothing to do with seperating themselves from others, but about socialising, training, & playing together, shared new experiences. It's not about seperation but community.

its a way to get to know other gay people. from my expereniance a lot of gay socalising is centered around drinking culture or cyber space. for those who want to get to know other gay people outside pub's or the internet, specialised gay sport teams is an alternative.
