Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Unless it's a diesel car, a damaged engine?

    section 102 of finance act 1999 http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/ZZA2Y1999S102.html
as amended by section 166 of finance act 2001 http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/ZZA7Y2001S166.html

basically a fine of up to €1,900 and if its a second offence possible forfeiture of the vehicle.

I understand this to applies to mineral oils where the duty hasn't been paid, or which has not been created/obtained/etc from a licenced producer/distributor/etc.

I don't know what green diesel is made from, but is it made from proscribed or controlled substances?

No it's normal diesel into which a green dye has been added. This is because certain vehicles are exempt from paying government taxes on their fuel. To prevent other people who are not exempt using the fuel, the dye is added. It will do no damage to the engine.

Customs and Excise however can stop any vehicle and sample the fuel from the tank. If it contains the green diesel, they'll prosecute.

Even if you return to using white diesel, they can still detect residues from the green diesel in the tank. (or so I've heard - any truth in that?)

It also contains an invisible chemical marker incase the dye is washed out by illegal means.

Yes the residue stays there for a long time. If they detect 1% green they will prosecute.
