IMO it was a trap; mention the word gravity and fox news guy would quickly say "but you can't explain that".

Silverman deflects the trap by sticking to his point; just because you haven't yet got the full explanation for something, does not mean that Mr. Sky Magic Man must be behind it.

    How about them magnets eh?

Magnets are magic too. Any kind of flux is, except soldering flux. :D

I doubt O'Reilly is smart/thick enough to even try that argument. :pac:

He always comes across as logical for a moment or two before letting the
veil slip & you'll see the right-wing loon he is.

On the latest Colbert report Colbert pulls up videos of O'Reilly using the
argument more than once @ different times, & in one clip he even uses the
argument "Sun comes up, sun goes down, tide goes in, tide goes out"

The church of the nativity in Bethlehem is controlled by three christian sects who can't seem to agree even on the time of day. AFAIR, it was last year when the monks from one group attacked the worshippers of another, putting several people in hospital.

This year, the church's roof is in danger of collapsing, but the christians couldn't agree to on how to fix it. So the islamic Palestinian Authority is stepping in:

It's worse than that! There's a ladder against a wall since 1852 as no one will move it since they can't agree on who is responsible!!!!!

From wiki, (this was in the papers over Christmas):

Under the status quo, no part of what is designated as common territory may be so much as rearranged without consent from all communities. This often leads to the neglect of badly needed repairs when the communities cannot come to an agreement among themselves about the final shape of a project.....

A less grave sign of this state of affairs is located on a window ledge over the church's entrance. Someone placed a wooden ladder there sometime before 1852, when the status quo defined both the doors and the window ledges as common ground. The ladder remains there to this day, in almost exactly the same position it can be seen to occupy in century-old photographs and engravings

Yes, the Nativity Ladder is my brother's favourite story, having seen the ladder a few years back.

We wept ourselves laughing (again) at this over xmas dinner :)

Putin has been cosying up a lot to the Orthodox church over the last few years and amongst much else, has granted the church's employees largely unfettered access to schoolchildren. I don't even want to think about where this is going to end up.

Anyhow, a random clicky on livejournal produces the following:

Apparently, you can erect the religious advertizing hoarding on the left without asking anybody ("I am the lord your god and you must have no gods before me"), while the sign on the right (note the color scheme!) says "Enjoy your life, there won't be another". For the latter, you need permission from the Orwellian "Committee of Advertizing", which, mirabile dictu, is run by one Sergei Baidakov, a man who has received substantial religious baubles from the orthodox church. The Committee has, unsurprisingly, said that the secular sign is "provocative" and has refused permission for it to be seen in public.

I don't think there's anything very "sub" about that :)

It'd make a nice conversation piece at the next A+A beers all the same.
