Lots of people make that mistake. When I get a chance (have to take car to NCT) I'll try and track down some of the Manson = Son of Man nonsense I have encountered.

Top story - parishoners in Bray urged to pray for the survival of local businesses

Didn't the folks in Mayo or somewhere have a campaign once to bless the roads? Yeah I swear I'm not making this up.

Yup. Sprinkling holy water on them. Because everyone knows wet roads save lives.

Only if they're wet-et-et-et-etted in the right way.

The RSA should get Ron Jeremy to jizz upon newly opened roads :pac:

    Ha! that was fun.

I can understand why some people don't, but I always enjoy watching Russell Brand (in relatively short doses). :)

I had a woman in the shop today buying a present for her son.
She selected a St.Christopher medal. I was wrapping it and she continued her conversation with her friend:
Her: I got Joey the medal!
Friend: Oh, it's nice. Do you think he'll wear it?
Her: I don't know. He's an atheist. Drives me crazy.
    Friend: My son is too!
Her: I mean, he doesn't practise it. He just doesn't believe.

I handed her the package, twitching.

And yet if you followed up by pointing out some flaws you see in catholicism there would be people without irony demanding you respect her beliefs. Probably your boss for one!

Just got around to watching that now.

Isn't it odd that they're so concerned with Leviticus 18:22 and yet managed to completely miss:

"“Keep my decrees.‘“Do not mate different kinds of animals.
‘“Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.
‘“Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material."
    Leviticus 19:19

"Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard."
    Leviticus 19:27

and that's just the ones that are obvious from the clip.

    Wicklow Times:

    'Pray and Purchase'
As retailers prepare for what will hopefully be the busiest couple of shopping weeks of the year, they have been heartened by support from an unexpected source.

The churches in Bray of all denominations have come together to organise support through prayer for retailers and businesses.

Are there any sex shops in Bray and did they pray for them, too? :pac:

Not that I know, but the pub trade probably constitutes most revenue generated in the town so they're pretty much praying for alcoholism.

    How pathetic.
They are exhorted to 'Pray and Purchase' in their local town.

Cute enough to have their angles covered.

The important word here being 'Purchase', which will take care of the religious mumbling. A fart does as much good as a prayer. Probably more in fact, since it often bring laughs.

    Ugghhhh, that article is depressing.

Sorry pet peeve on mine. But this was Xterminate! Christmas is
[latex] Xmas[/latex]. One is "X" the other is the uppercase version of the greek letter [latex]"\chi"[/latex] or chi. :)

I suggest reading the "Language Mavens" chapter of Stephen Pinker's The Language Instinct. It certainly tempered my inner pedant a little :-)

    There's some of it here.

Language evolves, and the simple fact is that X as a prefix can be used today to indicate some connection to Christmas. The fact that it derived from the Greek Chi is IMO pretty much irrelevant.

Do you see "Windows XP" and worry whether it might be "Windows Chi Rho"?
    :pac:
