Sounds like Ireland Inc. could get another blow across the bows shortly.

While we can't become complacent and they need to be looked after, I wouldn't worry about Intel leaving Ireland. They have too much invested here.

The facility is producing old technology chips. 120mm or something like that.

I thought as much re lower power chips.

Does anyone else thing its a bit dangerouse ( oka not dangerouse per say) to built a Intel plant in China , you can bet that the first set of workers are on the government payroll , as the technology would be copied in an instant.

Spies? Certainly, however they also have people in universities across the world learning how to design the things anyway.

China is such a massive opportunity,
that the big companies are prepared to put up with their goods being copied,
the returns are so great that it negates the counterfit goods

Anybody heard the news/rumours that Intel are set to announce massive retrofit of the older FAB14 in Leixlip next week. Its unknown at this moment if it will be 1264 (65nm) or newer 1266 (45nm) FAB.

Nice timing for Bertie for the election!

Visited the Intel factory Leixlip recently for work.

They make the latest quad core chips there. They've invested several billion in Ireland.

All companies in the sector are going into India and China. Intel still need Ireland to service the EU & US markets
