    Hi,

Myself and a few lads were hoping to do a 10K/mini marathon this summer, prefarably somewhere down the country - Cork, Kerry, Galway.

Anyone know of any events around July?

Achill half marathon on July 7th appears rather inviting.

know its not quite the 10k but galway 8k is one of my favourites! entries aren't open yet but keep an eye on the galway harriers web site for details.

its also not quite july! the weekend after the august bank holiday. however the race is held on a saturday evening so if you want to plan a weekend away around it, its good as you can still go for pints on saturday night rather than having to be good for a sunday race.

    Hi,

Does anyone know if the online entry charge for the Adidas race series of€18 is for each race or for the 3. If its for each its a big jump in cost from €10 per race last year and may turn a lot of people away from entering.

When they say "all welcome" in those things, is it really the case? If I turned up would it just be me and 20 runners from the club organising it?! And as such, are the people who normally do them really fit (as opposed to the fun-runners you get in the women's mm or bupa races)?

I'd love to do these short distances as motivation to keep up my training but I'm a bit embarassed about my lack of fitness (and enormous red sweaty head crossing a finish line!) :o

Usually, yes. I took park in a street league last year for the first time and was very worried about how much I'd stand out by being slower and less fit than the club runners. Turned out that while the club runners were winning the 3 mile races in about 15 minutes and I was coming in 4 or 5 minutes behind them there was still people jogging or walking across the line after I'd finished cooling down.

Plenty of lads competing to win but also loads of fun runners and walkers too.
