Congestion on Eircom Network?

    Guys, over the past few days, at certain times I've noticed my once stable and low ping to game servers in the UK shooting up, from a normal 20ms to 100+ms. Here's a tracert from tonight...

    As you can see the ping shoots up when the packets are well beyond my exchange.

    Is anyone else experiencing this?

    I'm getting the EXACT same problem recently. BF2142 is becoming a nightmare

    my tracert seems to locate the problem starting @ 83.71.112.198

    Think we'll have to get onto them and see what the hell they're doing.

    My pings have been up around 2-300, where they're usually around 20-30ms on Irish or UK servers

    I think it's getting worse. Last night I couldn't get a ping below 250ms to any site outside of Eircom. I've raised a call with the Eircom Broadband support, but needless to say I haven't heard anything back.

    Hey Dublin_Gunner what phone exchange are you connected to? I'm on the Finglas East exchange. I'm just wondering is it an exchange problem or something bigger...

    Skittle, I believe I could be on the same exchange, I live in Glasnevin, near the Finglas Dual carriageway.

    I think the only other exchange near me is Phibsboro, but last time I called when there was an outage they said it was Finglas, the the Finglas East exchange would make sense.

    Might give them hell and see if they'll switch me to another DSLAM.

    THis is only a failry recent occurance too, maybe the last month or so.

    I wasnt able to play until after 10.30 last night, even pinging google.ie was returning 300ms pings, which is ludicrous. Couldnt even ping eircom.net.

    Eventually it dropped back to 25 or so in game, but basically the whole evening was a write off.

    I checked my router, and the contention was 38/21 or so. So its not even like its at capacity and it cannot handle the traffic. Disgraceful.

    Those figures are related to your line quality - nothing at all to do with contention.
