Since the 17th of March i have had no phone or broadband.

Saturday morning before going to work i opened my laptop to check my mail, no luck. Thought it was nothing and went to work.

That night my phone rang, i answered and it sounded like i was on an old mobile and we both had bad connections.

Later i tried the net again and no luck.

I rang BT that mid week and they reset the line, bla bla bla.

They said an engineer would come out and check, no luck after 2 weeks.

Rang again and was told Eircom checked the line and said it was Green(working)

    Well duh it was ringing.

My sky box said it work too.

When the reset my line i got upto speeds of 869kbs instead of 3mb
this lasted just 10 secs though.

Today the line is worse you can't hear anybody but it rings, and sky sees it too.

I got 3 new filters, because BT had none.

    Still not working.

I disconnected all lines for 2 hours and only connected the phone still no luck.

I am going to try BT again...

1 month gone i better not have to pay for that.

I remember my lineattuation and noise2signal being to high and low 50db and 14db

Although upload was fine at 24db and 18db...

    Anybody else get this problem?

Also when the line rings the phone says internal call and doesn't show the callers id which is annoying.

frankly the line between the exchange and your house has degraded.

    1. have you tried with ONLY the modem plugged in (no sky or phones) ?
    2. HAVE you tried with another modem and with also with nothing else plugged in ?

if its still crap with tests 1 and 2 the problem is on the eircom line between your house and the exchange

i got the net working today

upload is nearly right 320kb instead of 384kb

    att 34db and s2n 14db

    but download is still screwed

    412kb instead of 3mb

att 65db and s2n is 2db if it was like upload then it would be great

    i used to get

    att 24db and s2n 14db
    on up an down

i was told yesterday it would be fixed in 48 hours

    That must mean Monday:(

The best thing to do is ring BT customer care and check if your line is on 3MB and also ring tech and ask to check if your line is still able to receive 3MB. The reason i say this is because if there is more people in your area ordering BB then the contention ratio will come in to and you would be suprised. MY mate thought he was 3MB when in fact it was only 1MB because of the above.

    Hi

    What about the modem/internal wiring?

    have you checked that?

The fact that for ex upstream works ok and downstream doesnt it means that you get problem in higher freq only, I dont know but if the line is testing green it sounds either the modem or internal wiring.

your att and snr look ok, what about the dtm table?

    have you checked that

Probably you will find that higher tones are carrying almost no bits at all

Your on a shared home connection your not guarenteed top speeds.

    320kb/s is acceptable imo.

Even though it's allowable to have such downlink speeds in the T&Cs of eircom home broadband, even eircom will take action on such a speed, but from what I see that means a downgrade. I don't see why a line shouldn't get the full upload speed as by default the upload frequencies have less attenuation. Surely if the uplink couldn't even get the full speed, that the downlink would be attenuated entirely??
