Ok, well tonight on FM104, there have been 15 or so people with reported sightings of UFO's in Lucan and dublin.
    Has anyone seen them?

Its the bright star when you look West, North West you can't miss it. You can see it from everywhere in the country.

It's been there for months its just that its got brighter over the last few weeks. Its due to the position the Earth, Sun and Venus is in at the moment. We are at a close point between the two planets as they orbit the Sun at different speeds which is making it appear bigger than usuall.

The same happened with Mars a few years ago.

They always get nutters on 104 and they happen to convince other nutters. If people were always paying attention to the sky they would know its normal and not the end of the world or something.

Its Venus, Venus is about 4/5s the size of Earth. It has a runaway global warming climate which produces alot of cloud and gas. As such Venus reflects most of the sun light it recieves, this makes it appear larger than it is from great distances.

And about know we are catching up with it in its orbit. In a few months time when we pass it by it will appear smaller again.

Curtis - There was a thread here a while ago about a meteor seen around that time.

Can someone post up the link for the OP?

Just wondering why Venus was (aparently) gone from the sky last night.
For the past week we had a very bright moon and an extremely bright Venus.
Last night the moon was gone and so too was Venus.

    What is the reason ?

    Thanks.

Last night Venus appeared with the moon at 1:30am or so to the East, South East, very low in the sky. Venus did not appear as bright due to it being close to the moon in the sky. Venus was above and to the left of the moon.
