I found a free app for android phones (galaxy s included) called shazam which works really well at identifying tunes if you point the mouthpiece of your phone at the source of the song, ie laptop or radio speakers. Works well for me. Hope mods don't mind me sharing that info!

The only thing this put me in mind of was Bell Orchestre, but I don't know if that's just your stellar midi. :D

Sorry for the quality....It didn't turn out as well as i expected, well thats freeware for ya. The song is quite a mellow one I heard on phantom a few weeks ago.

This one is annoying me! It's a really laid back and lovely song. Female vocals and there's a part of it that's not lyrics, more like oh wo oh oh eh..... and a bit more. I think it's newish and I've heard it on the radio recently so hopefully someone knows.

Hi, im trying to remember the name of a song that i used to hear on Mid West radio when i was growing up in Mayo. It was more spoken than sang and the gist of the song was that there was a family that were poor, the only son had to move away to england to work and many years later, when the the family home was being sold out from under the feet of the mother, the son returns as the mystery buyer. The only line i can clearly remember is towards the end, "Mother, do you not know your own son?" ( not much to go on i know!!!). For some reason 'The prodigal Son' keeps poppin into my head but cant find anything by that name,

    Thanks in advance guys.

I'd say that's Lisa Hannigans latest one.
    I think it's called "knots"

heard a song driving to college on ray darcy this morning. Acoustic guitar and singing interspersed with really bad rapping in a thick dublin accent. Anyone know what it was?

Nah wasn't Damien Dempsey. Think it was new and the rapper sounded like a kid. It was a band name not a persons name, just can't remember it.

    Hi there,

I've got a vague memory of a song in my head that I just can't put my finger on.

Basically it was a kind of comedy song, probably from the 70s or 80s, and it might have been an Irish singer / comedian, I'm not sure.

All I can really remember is that each verse was spoken, and the comedian would get the crowd to sing 'boing' ( like a bell pealing ) at the end of each line. Then he'd sing the chorus on his own.

From what I can remember, it was all very easy-listening and middle of the road. Any ideas?

    J.

P.S. Thanks for merging this, can't believe I missed the stickied thread!

Ah, I finally remember a bit more of the lyric, and the song is actually 'Little Jimmy Brown'. It's been around for decades and even Edith Piaf did a version!

I do think it was a comedy version, so I'll have to go looking for that...

    Hey all,
So I've heard this song on a few nights out at friends houses. It's a party tune, in some foreign language. As far as I know it's fairly recent and seems to be popular enough. The only song I know that I would compare it to is this......

fraid not :( i didnt realise the themes of suitcases and train stations was quite as overused as this in the 90s, it appears my description might match 90% of songs!
